Where are my Agatha Christie fans? ‍♀️ . Murder on the Orient Express was the first Christie I ever read before the new movie was released and I loved it way more than I ever anticipated. After that I listened to the audio of And Then There Were None. This year @readwithjamie and @jaylamm.reads started a monthly #queensofmystery buddy read of the Hercule Poirot series. I’ve been snatching up these vintage paperback copies as I’m able to from @silverfirebooks, but so far out of the ones I have Peril at End House is the only one on the lineup for 2019. I think a couple of these might be the Miss Marple series, but of course I don’t pay attention when I’m buying them. Someone in the group let us know that a bunch of the newer @williammorrowbooks paperbacks are on book outlet, but I kind of like the small paperbacks so I’m undecided on what I want to do. There’s another Instagram book club @maidensofmurder that reads Christie titles monthly, but I haven’t been able to officially read with them yet. Obviously I also needed this magnifying glass bookmark from @bookartbookmarks. Agatha Christie was naturally the first thing I thought of when I saw them in Margaux’s shop. Tag a friend who would love to visit beautiful Devon - they look straight from the pages of a Miss Marple or Sherlock Holmes novel don't they? The first is Buckland in the Moor and the second, Branscombe. Both of these super shots are by @livingindevon . Buckland in the Moor is one of the prettiest in Dartmoor, with proper 'chocolate box' thatched cottages and folk who correctly put the jam on their scone AFTER the cream (unlike the Cornish folk who do the opposite) Now some say this is a silly thing to argue about, but the great jam wars of 1521 are still etched into the minds of the villagers here. On the right of the picture you can just make out the castle-like structure of St Peter's church which dates from the 15th or early 16th century. . The village was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as 'Bochelande', and the name probably comes from the words 'book land'; that is, land held by charter. Talking of classic novels in sleepy old English villages - the Sherlock link would make perfect sense as The Hound of the Baskervilles was set largely on Dartmoor in Devon and tells the story of an attempted murder inspired by the legend of a fearsome, diabolical hound of supernatural origin. . Branscombe (2nd shot) is located at the meeting point of two valleys or combes, and this is how it derives its name. Branscombe’s thatched cottages meander down a magnificent valley nearly all the way to the sea and the village is believed to be the longest village in England. The weather has gone a bit wibbly wobbly here in the land of clogs and scones, so let's liven up this Friday morning with this dolly mixture patch of tulips at The Old Parsonage in Little Bredy, Dorset taken by @clivenichols How gorgeous is this view? Little Bredy (pronounced "briddy") stands at the head of the Bride Valley where the River Bride tumbles down a waterfall from its springs. The village is serene – cars are not allowed through some parts, creating a peaceful, old fashioned ambience, a sanctuary miles away from today’s fast paced society. In the background we see the church of St. Michael & All Angels. A church has stood on this site since the 13th Century (circa 1240AD) Although heavily reconstructed in the 1850s due to age, visible relics of the older church are still there. Such as the tower and porch beneath it, and some of the features in the chancel, the vestry doorway, the piscina beside it in the south wall, and some of the windows. Have a wonderful Friday! So I'm actually typing this on the way back up from boiling hot London... saw this great shot by @themissmarple and it reminds me while I'll always prefer country living to a big city. Love to visit London but after a week I start to crave honey coloured stone cottages, tumblin' down castles and peaceful mountain vistas. How about you? . Aye, I'm breaking the "no more than one Cotswold shot per month" rule... anyone mind? There has to be exceptions on a hot day like today. Not only do you have these classic Cotswold cottage homes to enjoy when you visit, but close by is the The Chedworth Roman Villa - a Roman villa located at Chedworth, Gloucestershire. It is one of the largest Roman villas in Britain and was built circa 120AD. Apparently the spring-fed pool in the northwest corner of the villa complex was the location of the apsidal shrine to the water-nymphs! Fancy! . Let me know if you're currently visiting Britain!
