The blunt truth: suicide is not an option! For anyone struggling with negative thoughts. They may not necessarily be suicide, but just negative thoughts, or depression or anxiety or you may be really struggling with something in your life right now, I hope this helps, even just a little bit. If you think this message can help somebody, please tag them. This is my 1% of talking about something uncomfortable and I know it’s not enough, but I know there are people who need to hear this. I pray God gives your heart ease. We've all heard of the 5 love languages but how awesome would it be if we explored our own love languages when it comes to self-love? I'm going to work on physical touch because I've been doing a lot of research on somatic healing and truly believe that emotional healing happens at a deep body level. Which one of these love languages will you commit to exploring for just you? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #selflovequotes #selfloveadvocate #selflovethreads #selflovethread #selflovery #selflover #selfcompassion #5lovelanguages #womenhelpingwomen #helpingwomen #muslimmoms #muslimmentalhealth #mentalhealthsupport #mentalhealthadvocate #muslimcoach #muslimcounselor #muslimahcoach #innerwork #healingwomen #survivor #cptsdsurvivor #cptsd #traumainformed #traumarecovery #inspiringwomen #inspiringquote #tribeofmentors

If we cut our finger our normal response would be to clean it, heal it and then keep it sheltered. So why is it that when we suffer mental trauma a lot of us would be hesitant to seek help or assistance in healing such wounds? . Alternatively, if as a friend or family member you see a person has injured themselves physically and doesn’t seek medical attention, you’d immediately exhibit some worry and urge the person to go visit a doctor or tend to the injury yourself. . So if you’ve noticed someone mentally unstable, showing signs of anxiety or even acting out of character, why would you not exhibit the same concern and try to help? . It’s estimated that a million people die from suicide every year. That’s one death every 40 seconds. By the time you’ve finished reading this, statistically, 2-3 people may have committed suicide. This isn’t a problem that’s getting any better. It’s predicted that by 2020 this rate will rise to one every 20 seconds. . Why does it take a person to take their life for things to change in the way we perceive mental health. So, I urge you; family members, friends, teachers and especially leaders in the community, don’t brush aside people that act out of character or haven’t been active for a while. Instead go visit them, speak to them, understand why they are feeling like this. Instead of focusing on all the external targets you have, go and speak to your fellow brothers and sisters. What’s the point of looking the best on the outside when the inside is dying and needs help? . I’ve said this previously, before you try to save the world, save your own. I hope this message may give some of you the courage to reach out if you’re feeling a certain type of way. More importantly I pray it opens your mind to a friend or family member that’s showing signs of anxiety, so you can go spend some time with them. . Our DMs are open if anyone wants to have a private, confidential chat, you can email us anonymously too if you’d like. Please, whatever you do, don’t think you have no options left. . Hey guys! I feel like there are a lot of new people here and I wanted to reintroduce myself. ⁣ ⁣ ✨I’m Sumayyah! I'm a practicing therapist in VA and I created this space to have some meaningful conversations around mental health and wellness + spirituality. ⁣ ⁣ ✨I'm incredibly passionate about therapy- it was a transformative experience in my life and  I love that I get to be a part of the journey my clients are on now.⁣ ⁣ ✨I love to read, have a high key obsession with Brene Brown, dream of one day having a bunch of animals on a farm, and love my plant babies. ⁣ ⁣ ✨My vision has always been to create a space where judgment could be put on pause and we could all take a moment to self reflect. So many of the answers we are searching for in life lie within us, if we could only take a moment to hear them. ⁣ ⁣ ✨I actively make a choice to not share too much about my personal life on here- mostly because of ethical boundaries around being a therapist, but also because there are enough spaces on instagram to consume other people's lives and maybe what we all need is a pause from all of that to reflect and grow. ⁣ ⁣ Thank you guys for being here and following along on my journey as a therapist- I love making connections and learning from you guys!

Breathing. Studies show that deep breathing -breathing in slowly through your nose filling your lungs with oxygen and breathing out slowly through your mouth - can help in reducing stress. The focus placed on your breaths allows you to disengage from your thoughts and instead focus on the breaths. . . . If you’re someone that struggles with anxiety/panic attacks then having a crisis plan can be really helpful. Incorporate deep breathing in your crisis plan and see if it works for you. . . . Also, as Muslims it can be helpful to turn to Allah for help in times of hardship so learning duas that are specific to you and your needs can again be used in your crisis plan. The Creator is the remover of obstacles so turning to Him can bring comfort. Here’s a dua that maybe useful during a panic attack or through general hardship. . . . Dua: Allaahumma 'innee 'a'oothu bika minal-hammi walhazani, wal'ajzi walkasali, walbukhli waljubni, wa dhala'id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijaal. O Allah, I seek refuge in you from grief and sadness, from weakness and from laziness, from miserliness and from cowardice, from being overcome by debt and overpowered by men (i.e. others). . . . . . . We all go through different struggles and hardships but for those who want to overcome those hardships, empower yourself with education and learning different ways to cope. I've written and deleted this post about ten times today. I can't seem to settle on something to say these days. And I need to know that's okay. It's perfectly acceptable to not post regularly on social media just to keep my numbers up. It's okay to check out and not be around. It's okay to struggle. It's okay not to be ok. . . I took myself out for breakfast this week as I've not felt myself lately. It didn't cure whatever ails me, but at least my tummy was full Alhamdulillah. . . This month's #leedslitclub read is #melmoth by Sarah Perry and I'm about a third of the way through. I've not read her other novel, The Essex Serpent, so I have no point of comparison, but so far, it's interesting, but not as compelling as I would have liked. Maybe it will pick up? Have you read it? . . #solobreakfast #datewithmyself #amreading #breakfastandabook #bookstagram #itsoknottobeok #bookstgramfeature #bookish #breakfast #booksandtea #readinpublic #mentalhealthmatters #muslimmentalhealth
