Today I'd like to adress nationalism, patriotism and being proud of one's heritage. One can be all of the above and not be selective. Especially these days when people are often economic, refugee, optional or any other migrants. We travel and often live away from our native countries but the point I want to make is that people who chose to do this for any of the above reasons have to have thankfulness and gratefulness to the country they live in. . My lineage although has partial roots in Sri Lanka I am foremost British. My education , and who I am today is thanks to England. I love both countries yet I only have one home. . I cannot have respect for people who live and reap the benefits of a country's generosity yet speak ill or act in a way that is against that country's way of life. If you have emigrated then it is for a reason that was better than where you were. Have the humanity to accept this. Grace to be thankful. Not abuse it with free speech that you would not have been entitled to if you were where you fled from. . This inability to be thankful, ignorant and bloody minded in inciting hatred while reaping rewards within a society will never be seen as anything other than sheer stupidity in my opinion. . What I look like, what my name is, my ancestry and a heritage is what I inherited. What I am is for only myself to decide. I am proud of every aspect of my lineage, respect each and have a love that is born within me. . We can all live anywhere and love countries of origin, but have the grace to understand, be respectful, thankful and at the very least adhere to the land that gives you what you have right now. . Even as a tourist, respect a country and their laws.
