DIY DETANGLING SPRAY | After washing the girls hair (or mine) we spray this DIY leave-in conditioning spray on hair from ears down to detangle and comb with ease. As an added bonus it boosts shine, reduces flyaways and nourishes hair without all the funky fragrances & endocrine disrupters that are found in store bought sprays.
DIY Detangler spray
In an 8oz glass spray bottle add 1/4 cup chemical-free conditioner - we love the Copaiba Vanilla shampoo! Add 3 drops Geranium + 3 drops Ylang Ylang (you can use your favorite oils for hair care- there are so many!) Top with warm (not hot) distilled water and shake well. Mist hair & comb through or apply heavier, put hair in a bun and use as an overnight mask and wash out. Questions on oils for hair care?- message me, I can share more! Which oils are your adding to yours?
Who does the cleaning in your household? My hubby does all the cleaning in our household, so I am very lucky in that manner. However, i'll tell you a little secret... if you do a bad job cleaning, maybe your partner may do it instead!
Today we are getting Koh-ing and honestly I was a little sceptical about the Instagram and Facebook rave about @cleanedbykoh . However, after seeing how quickly Eric cleaned our area of our home, I am converted! Koh products are eco friendly and contain no nasty chemicals, making them also safe products to use around the home, which is so important to us with a young crawling toddler and dog. .

#ad// I’m all about natural products, I want to use what’s safest for my family, but let’s be honest for a second. A lot of them don’t work! I was excited to try the new vinegar based @nineelements line that has 9 or less ingredients in each product! The ingredients are clearly listed and explained in their bottles and website so you can make an educated and safe decision that works for your family. #lessismore #nineelements #9elements //

What’s in your kitchen⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Wax wraps were the very first plastic free swap I ever made.. I still have a roll of unused cling film in my draw, untouched from that day over the year and a half ago.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I found the kitchen an easy place to start my plastic free journey. From washing up to food storage there are lots of swaps I found easy and manageable:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
WASHING UP Replace plastic scrubbing brushes, plastic sponges and disposable j-clothes with wooden scrubbing brushes, reusable clothes, and sponges that you wash and use again and again.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
LEFTOVERS Swap cling film for wax wraps, or simply put a plate over the top for keeping leftovers in the fridge.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
FOOD Choose food in glass jar and bottles and tins over plastic, choose lose veg over plastic wrapped, buy in bulk rather than individually wrapped, find a zero waste store to buy loose pasta, rice etc and store in glass jars. Take cotton produce bags to the shops to avoid those annoying little plastic bags. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
CLEANING Replace all the million cleaning products under your kitchen sink by making your own and storing in a glass bottle and use with a reusable cotton cloth. Baking soda and vinegar are the foundation for most of my homemade cleaning sprays, I’ll do a post with recipes on these soon.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
PACKED LUNCH Swap single use sandwich bags for reusable clothes bags, wax wraps or a metal lunch box. Take bamboo cutlery with you to avoid disposable plastic cutlery. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What kitchen swaps have you made and what would you like to do next ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Laundry Soap Berries: 4 Ways
DRY
Place 4-5 berries in cloth sack, toss into laundry on soak cycle with any water temp. Good for lightly-soiled clothes. Use up to 10x or until berries become thin and disintegrate.
LIQUID
4–5 berries in cloth bag and pre-soak with hot water for 10 mins. Toss berries with liquid into laundry machine. This is a better option for more soiled clothes. Reuse berries up to 10x. Or make a big batch of liquid detergent with 1/2 cup nuts and 3 cups water in pot bringing to a boil. Simmer for 1/2 hour until about 2 cups liquid left. Berries will become soft, mush with a spoon. Let cool and store in fridge for up to 2 weeks. Use 3 tbsp per load. Check highlights for DIY.
FROZEN
Make liquid batch as per above and freeze into ice cubes to extend life, up to 6 months. Add 2-3 cubes per load. You can also add a cube to a sink load of dishes.
FOAM
Make liquid batch as above and place everything into a blender. This will make A LOT of foam. Use foam to shampoo or shave. Foam will dissolve overnight; keep liquid for laundry or dishes. Check highlights for DIY.
TIPS
Option to add a few drops of lavender essential oil to liquid. For extra boost add 2 tbsp washing soda and/or 1 tbsp safe bleach to each load. For heavy stains rub Sal Suds onto spot and leave for 30 mins to overnight. (Check laundry highlight for details). Some blend nuts into a powder and mix with washing soda to make powdered detergent but I figure the whole, dry berries are easier and you can reuse over and over. Compost once done.
NOTES
Soap that grows on trees! I tried to enlighten my mom about these and she laughed because this is what they used for laundry back in China. Soap berries (nut-free) release saponin, a natural surfactant, when agitated. Sceptical? Swipe or check out the suds and foam in my soap nuts highlights.
WHERE TO BUY
Available in bulk (@bulkbarnfoods, @baremrkt, @karmacooptoronto) or shop Eco Nuts brand online. Organic and fair trade, ethically supporting local farmers.
