DANCING THROUGH LIFE—THE NIA LIFESTYLE
Having just finished a Nia White Belt, the first level of Nia body and life training, I am reminded of how much I love the Nia Lifestyle, "Dancing Through Life", which means turning every move you make into something that feels like a dance, and being responsible to bring dance into your life as the medicine you use to stay happy, calm, and relaxed and healthy in life. I'm reminded how taking as little as sixty-seconds throughout the day to create moments of full-blown unscripted dance breaks can bring the medicine of movement into your life everyday. Movement, the body’s medicine strengthens and heals, develops a healthy brain and body, and the best news of all; movement is completely organic and natural and requires no machines!
Whether dealing with depression, self-esteem, stress, weight loss or, anxiety, brief bursts of dance act like pleasure time release capsules to make you instantly feel and look better.
HOW I DO IT:
I stay connected to the sensation of “this is me” in my body, and when tensions arise, if my breath becomes shallow, if my jaw or, hands get tight or, if my mind gets in the way of me experiencing my life as “joyful”, no matter where I am, I get up and dance full out. I dance for thirty to sixty-seconds, and if I have access to music, I put on my favorite tune and let rip for the entire song. Dancing Through Life is medicine!
TO GET THE MOST OUT OF A DANCE BREAK: ⭐ Don’t think, just move. Tap into the power of pre-verbal communication and speak what you feel through your dance, using every part of your body, even your voice. ⭐Affirm the changes you feel after dancing by letting your body know you received the medicine and gifts of moving by saying, “Thank you body I feel (speak out loud what you notice has shifted)”. ⭐Invite others to take dance breaks with you and consciously dance to shift energy in and around you!
We are so happy to hear that @Lauriebass and @sophie_marsh_ had a successful Nia White Belt Training in Brisbane, Australia! Overall, 14 new Nia students graduated as White Belt's and everyone had a fantastic time. In addition, both Laurie and Sophie enjoyed this co-training and deepened their connection as Nia trainers. As facilitators, they learned from each other, deepening and widening their trainer roots and wings. They supported each other, sustained their energy, shared music choices and menu of practice tools. Their participants received two perspectives, twice the attention and felt the collaborative energy of our relationship. This seeded a supportive and accepting environment for the belt week and beyond.
