We finally saw both Lois and NotLois in the yard at the same time! Clearly they get along. Whether they are gal pals, or a male/female couple we aren't sure (I'm personally leaning towards 2 females). And in the second video we have a REALLY brave NotLois. I've had a few people ask about Lois, NotLois and NotNotLois. We havent been up late enough to see them, but last night, NotLois showed up for some food. So, I haven't said anything, because I didn't quite know what to say or how to say it. We haven't seen Lois in a while. But we've seen her friend (featured in the video). This made me worried something happened. And Tuesday night when her friend was there without her, I was certain she wasn't around any more. But then my husband saw a little standoff between Not Lois, and another submissive raccoon that was Maybe Lois (Maybe Lois was gone before I could get to the window to see if it was actually Lois). So, last night we put a kennel in the enclosure, with a black blanket covering it, like we used to have when Lois was in there. I hid a bowl with cat food, eggs, and grapes in the back of the kennel, figuring that only Lois, and not a Not Lois, would be willing to go in there to search for food. The proof would be in the eggs and grapes (Not Lois had both in the bowl you see on the patio, but seemed to have no interest in them). So when I went to check the enclosure, not only was the bowl completely empty, but there is a GRAPE SKIN!!! None of my other coons spit out grape skins. That behavior is strictly Lois behavior! So there's hope, though I still haven't laid eyes on her yet. My guess is the other raccoon is alpha and Lois maybe comes around after the other has left. I do have a plan to try and get eyes on Lois this weekend. So... This is NotLois. This raccoon is much bolder than Lois is at this point! I went outside earlier to rinse off CK's food tray (he pooped on it, for the THIRD time today), and I thought for sure the water hose would scare this baby off. Nope. Not even a little! Sometimes when raccoons are this bold, we worry about rabies or distemper. I don't see any signs of either of these things, and I haven't since we first saw him/her a few weeks ago. It could just be that a neighbor used to feed it and so it got very comfortable around people, especially ones that have cat food littered in the yard! Luckily Lois has been vaccinated against both (as we do for all wildlife we take in), and we will continue to be cautious around this one. We aren't sure how long the tuft of fur on its back has been gone. Could be a new injury, or a very old one. For now, we'll happily let NotLois eat the cat food and food scraps in the yard. #NotLois #stray #wildliferehab #texaswildlife #raccoonsaloon #raccooncrunchies

This will probably be our last Lois update. Over the last week, I've worried more and more about Lois and whether or not she was ok. Last night, I just had this feeling and I kept looking out into the backyard. I saw a raccoon, but the minute it saw me it ran off, so I assumed it was NotLois. I was climbing into bed when my husband called me to the back door, and we were pretty sure we were looking at Lois. She ran off when I unlocked the back door. I figured she probably didn't go far, so I put some grapes and eggs on the patio, and we turned off the lights in the house so we could get a better look. You guys. It was Lois! She ate the grapes and took an egg with her (she came back soon after to grab the second one). She is wild and had no interest in being near us. While it's sad we may not see her again, this is a BIG success!! This is exactly what we wanted, we just weren't sure it would happen. Our girl is living her best raccoon life, and is not dependent on us at all. I am over the moon! Another successful release.
