Of the 19 sub populations of polar bears, 13 of them are in Canada (65% of the world population). The poster child of global warming and climate change. But let’s tell another story. A story where they don’t die off like dinosaurs but adapt to the lack of sea ice. Being more terrestrial base like their close cousin the grizzly. Sounds great for bears right? But how about all the other critters that call the terrestrial arctic and sub arctic regions home? After all l, we are talking about the largest land predator in the world. More human-bear conflicts is inevitable the longer they dwell, and in this case we know who walks away. In the case of nesting snow geese, hungry bears reportedly devoured 800 eggs over 4 days in the Hudson Bay Area. Climate change may or may not kill off the polar bear, but it’s effect rippling across our planet will do away with some. @polarbearsinternational #baffinisland, #nunavut, #canada. 05/2019.⁣ .⁣ .⁣ . ⁣ #arcticocean #blueplanet #wondermore #earthfocus #bears #imagesofcanada #earthofficial #bbcearth #awesome_earthpix #arcticcircle #explorecanada #animals #polarbear #mycanadianphotos #wildlifeconservation #polarbears #ourplanetdaily #nature #nikonnofilter #turningthetide #climatechange #globalwarming #旅行 #景色 #自然 #planetearth @travelnunavut @destinationnunavut @nikoncanada

In the 1970s there was roughly half as many people in the world as we have today. Approaching 8 billion, places where you can just be with your shadow, undisturbed by the constant buzz of being connected, is increasingly rare. It’s worth the bumpy ride, the cold, the lack of amenities. These moments of feeling humbled by the wild, cannot be bought, bottled, or shared (tho i try ). Once commonly found in our backyards, those revisited memories seem to be buried by concrete. I travel a lot but in contrast there’s many common hit list destinations I’ve never been to. People often ask how i come up with my adventure ideas. Well it’s an addiction to finding that feeling of truly being out there; where you feel the tingling in your fingertips, the goosebumps up your back, the freshness and aromas engaging the very essence of your being, that’s what I search for, and it determines where I wander. The true treasures left to be discovered. #baffinisland, #nunavut, #canada. 05/2019.⁣ .⁣ .⁣ . ⁣ #arctic #arcticexplorer #wondermore #earthfocus #canadaswonderland #imagesofcanada #earthofficial #bbctravel #awesome_earthpix #arcticcircle #explorecanada #womenwhoexplore #djimavic #mycanadianphotos #expedition #ourplanetdaily #planetearth #middleofnowhere #icebergs #iceberg #livebravely #旅行 #景色 #travelstoke #自然 @travelnunavut @destinationnunavut @canadagoose @baffin.safari

This trip brought new meaning to the word expedition. The 300mile traverse across sea ice from Clyde River to Pond Inlet with guide John Davidson from @baffin.safari and Noah our Inuit guide was a true adventure. Navigating through the rough ice, and crossing massive leads (cracks in the ice with exposed ocean below) proved to be an everyday challenge out here. The conditions and visibility was an unknown from hour to hour, and here we are, stopped in our tracks trying to find the safest route north through the packed ice. The guides consulted gps, climbed on tall mountains of ice to get some visibility beyond the impossible terrain that surrounded us. Truly feeling disconnected, and at Mother nature’s mercy. We didn’t stop purposely for pictures, but oddly the most beautiful shots to be had seemed to be surrounded by inhospitable conditions that stopped us in our tracks. #baffinisland, #nunavut, #canada. 05/2019.⁣ .⁣ .⁣ . ⁣ #arctic #arcticexplorer #dronephotography #wondermore #earthfocus #canadaswonderland #imagesofcanada #earthofficial #bbcearth #awesome_earthpix #arcticcircle #explorecanada #mavic2pro #mycanadianphotos #expedition #artoftheshutter27 #ourplanetdaily #nature #djimavic #adventuremore #livebravely #旅行 #景色 #travelstoke #自然 @travelnunavut @baffin.safari

Polar dreams. There’s a lot to dream about when drawing up adventure ideas for the great white north. But for me one definitely stood out. Meeting the true KING OF THE NORTH, a polar bear! By chance my first polar bear sighting was watching him day dream on a massive iceberg. Bear sightings weren’t everyday like penguin sightings on Antarctic trips. I truly believe it’s only when they feel comfortable that they can be seen, truly elusive creatures that despite their size hide quite well amongst their habitat of dynamic ice. Perhaps the most important aspect of survival in the Arctic is staying warm and keeping dry. Everything else can be managed after this. I lived in my @canadagoose Lorette parka for two weeks, only taking it off to slip into a sleeping bag. I’ve gotten to know it well. Without a doubt i knew it’d keep me toasty and dry, but here are some of the simple features that i never considered before but became a game changer for my trip. The down hood with fur and wired shaping ring. Riding in a qamatik in the Arctic (9-12hrs a day) is like driving a convertible, top down, in the winter. Any other down hood I’ve owned would simply flown off, but the shaping ring allowed me to pretty much encircle my face with the fur (this maybe controversial for some but in extreme conditions where frostbite can ensue minutes after exposure, the fur is the best option to keep the biting wind at bay). I’ve owned long parkas before, the range in motion typically is a trade off on the warmth, whether it be shooting from a qamatik in awkward positions, or climbing over mountainous pack ice to get on top of icebergs to harvest water, the snap buttons in the back gave me the option of moving freely. The interior backpack straps allowed me to easily hang my parka up high in my tent away from the puddles of water (realities of camping on ice). There were only two dangles in my tent to hang stuff from, the other was reserved for my socks (at every opportunity i would switch to my driest pair, any perspiration and you’ll have frosty feet, it’s been a week since I’ve been off the ice, and the nerves in my toes are just recovering) #baffinisland, #nunavut, #canada. 05/2019.⁣ .⁣ .⁣ . ⁣ #arctic #arcticexplorer #wondermore #earthfocus #canadaswonderland #imagesofcanada #earthofficial #bbcearth #awesome_earthpix #arcticcircle #explorecanada #nikonnofilter #mycanadianphotos #expedition #ourplanetdaily #planetearth #middleofnowhere #icebergs #iceberg #livebravely #旅行 #景色 #travelstoke #自然 @travelnunavut

Happy World Oceans Day! There’s much to celebrate about the unknown depths of our planet, and much to ponder about as conditions seem to worsen. Having just returned from the Arctic, conditions were rather balmy for the month of May. Comparing average temperatures from 1981-2010, the stretch of arctic from Greenland to the northern archipelagos in Canada, we were sitting 7c above the norm, and the break ups were happening well ahead of schedule. The repercussions of this has been preached, climate change. But let’s look at Inuit communities that rely on the ice for hunting and transportation. Bears not only rely on ice for hunting, but the higher temperatures increases the frequency of overheating. Belugas that don’t frequent this particular floe edge was visiting with an early migration of narwhals, with decreasing ice extent these guys are vulnerable to orcas. Life is changing quickly in the arctic, all because our oceans got a fever! Being human, clinging to our air and terrestrial space, with our petrochemical wastes, it seems we’ve lost sight that every life is dependent on the many water systems on our planet, the largest of it being our oceans; it’s what uniquely made our blue planet capable of sustaining life. #baffinisland, #nunavut, #canada. 05/2019.⁣ .⁣ .⁣ . ⁣ #arcticocean #blueplanet #wondermore #earthfocus #canadaswonderland #imagesofcanada #earthofficial #bbcearth #awesome_earthpix #arcticcircle #explorecanada #polarbear #mycanadianphotos #wildlifeconservation #polarbears #ourplanetdaily #nature #turningthetide #climatechange #globalwarming #旅行 #景色 #worldoceansday #自然 #planetearth @travelnunavut @polarbearsinternational @canadagoose
