TROUBLEMAKER TUESDAY ”You Know Who You Are!” • Perfectly cooked Ribs by @doncaruso_bbq on a #troublemakertuesdays Troublemaker Red consists of Syrah, Grenache, Petite Sirah, Mourvèdre and Zinfandel. Syrah is the backbone of the wine, setting the stage for a fruit-forward style and a full body. Petite Sirah contributes to the deep ruby color. Sweet and bright red fruit flavors of Grenache blend with the rustic and lively flavors of the Mourvèdre, while Zinfandel adds its signature zing to round out the blend. Troublemaker has a deep purple color with powerful aromas of ripe cherry, dried plum and savory sage. The palate entry is somewhat of a surprise as the finesse of black current, hints of sweet oak and espresso lead to luxuriously soft yet firm tannins that linger through the mid-palate and beyond. Outstanding with RIBS • Troublemaker Blend 12 • VINEYARDS • The grapes for Troublemaker are sourced from key vineyard sites throughout the Central Coast, adding to the complexity of the blend. The warm climate of Paso Robles – specifically El Pomar, Estrella and Templeton Gap Districts add body and depth to the wine. Other Central Coast vineyard sites were chosen for their unique characteristics, as well as the dry farmed Zinfandel from Lodi, ultimately leading to a more complex blend. • PRODUCTION • The grapes were harvested, crushed, then cold-soaked prior to fermentation in five-ton, open-top tanks, as well as 20-60 ton closed- top stainless steel tanks for 7 to 14 days. Wines were aged in oak for a minimum of 15 months and a maximum of 27 months, depending on the vintage. All barrel aging was done in French and American oak barrels, 70% of which were new. Blend 12 was first assembled in September of 2018 and was cross-flow filtered prior to bottling in late January 2019. • Our wines are available at your favorite wine store! Since I had time to spare today before heading back to JFK I decided to check out a winery not too far from where I was staying. And I’m so glad that I did!! ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I tried 6 different wines while I was here and since it was so hot I stuck to chilled whites and rosés. These grapes are about 50% from the vineyard and 50% from other parts of New York including the Finger Lakes. The slate soil up here means a lot of minerality in the wine! Ultimately I grabbed a glass of 2018 Seyval Blanc. Taste flavors of green apple and lemon, could see it pairing well with fresh oysters. If you’re in there area, this is a must stop. They also have pizza for order. It’s #NationalWineDay today, and I’m keeping it local. New York has always been a destination for wine lovers, but let’s be honest … most flock to NYC to enjoy fabulous wines from afar. Until very recently, at the best restaurants and the most cutting edge wine bars, you’ve been more likely to find a rare gem from Languedoc than Long Island. Slowly, that’s changing as wineries in Long Island, the Finger Lakes, the Hudson Valley and beyond, garner international acclaim for their juice. (In addition to competition awards, Wine Enthusiast has rated 20 New York wines a 90 or above in recent years). The problem is, New York is a big place (54,556 square miles for the geeks), and even if you pick one terroir to explore, you’ll need a patient designated driver with an actual map (GPS goes in and out in them thar hills) to haul you around.
