Life is too short to hold onto things. Wine being one of them. I love wine, so I’m going to indulge in my cellar wine, and enjoy it. This is @hughcrichton ‘s Vidal Legacy Chardonnay 2011. And it is AMAZING. Everyone who knows me knows I’m a Chardonnay nut! And I’m in heaven drinking this on a sunny Hawkes Bay winter arvo. Tell your loved ones you love them. And drink your nice wine before it’s too late. ❤️ . . . #wine #winetasting #winenight #winelover #winery #wineglass #winecountry #winestagram #winelife #wineoclock #winetourism #wineblogger #womanofwine #finewine #winegirl #winelovers #worldofwine #winelovers #winewinewine #nzwine #nzwinetrail #nzcraftygirl #instawine #vino #womeninwine #winewriter #wineaddict #wineoftheday #hawkesbaywine #chardonnay

How to buy a winter warmer, tips on buying yummy red wines for the cooler months. . Most wines are made for immediate consumption, Though a few red wine qualities such as the presence of mouth watering Tannin (the earthy or full flavoured sensation in the wine) will often soften & improve over time if aged for a year or two in the bottle, This being said I like to buy my red wines by vintage (the year the wine was produced) not by brand/and or the label - Though I do love them all, Sometimes it can just be too dam hard to choose. So I’m always looking for something on the shelf two years or more different from the current year we are in... So being 2019 I will be looking for wines 2017 or prior to this such as... 16s 15s and 14s ((and if your super lucky 2013s (@hawkesbaywine vintage of a life time!)). . If you start gazing the entire selection & shop with a different perspective the likeliness of finding those hidden gems is higher, It’s also true that higher priced wines are usually superb but some of the worlds best drinking wines sit around that $12 - $20 price point. So don’t feel judged if you go for the cheaper option, And maybe aim to spend that bit extra next time or when celebrating special occasions! Always try something you haven’t before and don’t be afraid to be adventurous with new varieties and blends of red wine. . Purchasing wine from a knowledgeable source is also a great way to improve the chances of buying a great wine! Places such as @advintagewines in Havelock North are a wealth of information, have great buying power for special & hard to come by wines from all around the world and the team there are all super approachable rock stars. There is no such thing as a silly question. Their entire selection is also available on line for those who aren’t local. My thoughts are by no means gospel nor the only way to purchase wine, As wine is very subjective to the individual, What I like.. You may not like and that is ok, in fact it’s actually the point. There is something out there for everyone I promise, Just be brave and try it or you’ll never know if you liked it! Cheers and enjoy what ever it is your drinking this winter, Nic ❤️

Mind blowing wine!!! . . Mugnier Nuit-Saint-George Clos de Maréchale blanc 2009 ⭐️ . . Perfectly subtle reduction on the nose, hints of gunpowder developed into soft, fresh peach and pear. Beautiful palate, very refined, textured, tensioned but again very subtle. Let’s talk Central Otago region shall we? ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣ NZ’s southernmost wine region, yet the highest and colder temperatures (due to being in the Southern Hemisphere). Vineyard owners must be selective of their land due to potential frost conditions and varying soils. With the surrounding mountainous terrain providing each sub-region within CO a unique climate, feature, and altitude. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Hot and short summers with high sunshine hours and cooler nights. Longer, dry autumns with usually low humidity (great for avoiding Botrytis) combine for purity and complexity. This sort of “hangtime” between the microclimates really allows the delicate fruit of Pinot Noir to develop ripeness and depth. And let me tell you, what an eye-opening experience it was to taste Pinot Noir from this region. I had heard good things, but this was beyond good. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ FYI: Many other varietals are growing well here also: Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣ In my glass: Blondie, a light blush Rosé of Pinot Noir by @wooingtree. Have you ever tried a wine from Central Otago? Let me know what you’ve tried, liked, disliked or if I can give you any recommendations! ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣

It’s Sauvignon Blanc Day! . I would love to know what your favourite #sauvblanc is, so please leave me a comment below . . I love #sauvignonblanc for its intensity and refreshing acidity, with aromatics and flavours that can run the gambit between herbaceous and citrus, to passion fruit and guava! . I recently enjoyed the 2017 Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc for this occasion. On the nose there is plenty of minerality and even a hint of petrol, especially when you first open it, followed by grassy notes, lemon, yellow grapefruit and tarragon. The body is medium and the acidity is high. The palate starts off briney, building into lemon, yellow grapefruit, gooseberry and green pepper, with a medium finish. . I hope you enjoy your Friday and have a great weekend!. . . . #dogpoint #dogpointvineyard
