Sometimes inspiration is found in unexpected places. Loving these bright and cheerful doorways. The color combinations are so random, yet they work.

The oldest stone bridge of its kind is in #Philly and it needs tender-loving repair. The Frankford Avenue bridge spans Pennypack Creek, just north of Solly Avenue. It was built by hand about 320 years ago, at the frontier’s edge, most likely by settlers from England and Sweden. Over the years, the bridge has been widened, its surfaced raised and had new masonry installed. But parts of the bridge remain untouched, existing exactly how it appeared when its builders finished. This week, PennDot began a $3.2 million project to repair, restore and extend the life of the bridge, stone by stone. Work is expected to take about six months. Photo by @mjbryant27 / Staff.

Update: @ohiometaldetecting helped identify this brass token that says "E. REISTLE / 5 / S.P." It actually about the size of a nickel with nothing on the flip side. Found it along Ridge Avenue in Philadelphia above the Falls in Roxborough close to where Ernest Reistle operated a saloon and German beer garden called Saenger or Singer Park in the 1870s. How neat is this token? #metaldetecting #metaljunk #oldphilly
Philadelphia PTC PCC No. 2266 on line 50, turning off West Wyoming south onto 5th in Feltonville. December 16, 1966. The stores on the corner are still there, painted differently. And the bank was a pharmacy, at least in 2017.

Not much today at an old house (pre1880) with a 10 acre "yard" in an old area of Pennsylvania. Finds were sparse as was the trash -- it was not hit hard before and just seems to lack much at all. But it was a good first foray with the new machine so I could learn signals. Bunch of wheaties, two 1930s nickels (from the same hole), silver nickel and a few neat trinkets including an old gold filled Cross pen, Spacepilot wings and a War Service Ship Building badge. The war service ship building badge is numbered on the back and was issued during World War I to private shipyard workers, apparently to show they were contributing to the war effort even though not in the military. #metaldetecting #metaljunk #oldphilly
