'I didn't think you could just become a rock and roll singer.' - Tom Petty. So two weeks ago the Openair Festival in St. Gallen took place and I really had a blast. It was really a cool event, even though it wasn't sold out for the second year in a row. When you're a regular visitor there you noticed it pretty well, because there was enough space for camping and during the concerts there was space to walk around. It was pretty comfortable from that point of view, but for the organization committee I kind of feel sad, because I witness each year how much heart, work and time needs to be invested to make this festival happen. They actually setup the infrastructure for a small city for the 4 days the festival is happening and it takes a lot of manpower. So what needs to be changed to have it sold out again? I'm not sure to be honest. Probably the lineup wasn't really the best this year for the target audience with Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails. And for a festival with a target audience aged between 18 and 25/30 there were just not enough main acts. Also the Hip Hop festival in Frauenfeld took place a week later, with Eminem being the headliner, which is probably the biggest act in this festival summer 2018. And when you're on a budget and have to chose, you probably chose the other festival. Anyway, during the festival I was able to get a quick flight window to get a shot of the main stage on Sunday morning. I didn't fly over the audience at all and stayed out of trouble (= crowds) the whole time. I still managed to get a decent shot of my favorite festival in Switzerland, if not the world.
