The symbolic meaning of owl in ancient Egyptian, Celtic, and Hindu cultures revolved around guardianship of the underworlds, and a protection of the dead. In this light the owl was ruler of the night and seer of souls. A misunderstanding of this necessary relationship gave the owl some negative associations with death. ⠀⠀ Death, in symbolic terms, simply means “transition” – it’s just a one state of energy changing into another. The term “death” is not exclusive to physical. We can experience transition (or death) in emotion, mind, spirit. We’ve all been through seasons of change. Take for instance a change of heart. You may have felt one way, only to feel another. ⠀⠀ In other words, Owl appears to us when transition is near. Owl will also assist us in moving through these transitions. This is especially true when we are changing ‘in the dark,’ as in dealing with changes that deal with the unknown and unseen. Let’s face it – the owl is a master at maneuvering within the realm of unknown. It thrives in the world of shadow. Therefore, owl can help us manage the sometimes scary, dark spaces of our consciousness that need to be seen and met with unconditional love in order to heal. ⠀⠀ Native Americans associated the meaning of owl with wisdom, foresight, and keeper of sacred knowledge. This may largely be due to the fact that the owl is a great foreteller of weather conditions. #Owlmedicine : . in the case of these owls, according to my local source, roughly 6 months after the owlet hatching, the parents (read: guru) will hide from the owlet (read: student), essentially forcing the owlet to become disillusioned and cultivate its own independence. At that stage, the owlet is equipped with the basic skills to survive, and no longer needs the parents for guidance and protection. The owlet will then usually leave the nesting area and find a new territory for hunting and mating. Once the owlet is gone, the parents re-emerge to continue the cycle. . . When I got this download, I immediately recognized the overlap with my ongoing research, practice, and experience of “magick”... no wonder the owl has so much mystical lore surrounding it. And no wonder I identify so closely with this beautiful creature.. . . Here are some notes I transcribed from the words of Jason Louv; practitioner, scholar, and teacher of magick: . . "When you enter into ‘the field’ of someone [guru] who has that kind of cultivation — that 'buddha-field' [reality-distortion field] — your #evolution is sped up — you have a heightened sense of your own personal #potential. The stories that you tell yourself about why you can't do things or why you're stuck — those have less power over you. They dissipate a little bit. And suddenly you feel like you have an #expanded sense of being #alive, your breathing becomes deeper.... and sometimes even by talking about somebody like this you can start to get a sense of that. . But people are addictive — and they easily become followers (read: imitators) — it's kind of like the opium den — you can’t stay there forever…. so it’s either you become trapped by that, or, if you have a good guru, they will force you out of the nest at some point... if you don't, they will essentially enslave you for money or labor or whatever. . The best possible outcome is that you get shoved out -- that you get disillusioned -- and that eventually you cultivate it [the field] for yourself, if you see through the #game. .
