Piggies! I can’t believe how quickly our pigs are growing. They seem to have exploded! They’re happily digging up their enclosure, and are eating kilos of sow rolls as well as loads of kitchen garden produce. They’re still utterly delightful and I love pottering around in the polytunnel and hearing them oink gently at each other and I often stand and watch them when I’m filling their mud wallow with water, they’re such little characters. She brings her toys up to their enclosure and stands there trying to commune with them. She never showed this kind of interest in the sheep! We have pigs! Our first ever pigs arrived yesterday afternoon to take up residence in a run just behind the kitchen garden (convenient for chucking odds and ends from the kitchen garden over the fence). I’m absolutely smitten. They pottered about going “oink oink oink oink” quietly to each other and exploring the trees and their new home. My husband is just as taken with them, but is now worried I won’t want to send them to slaughter. Despite successfully finishing the sheep, it’s long been his fear that we’ll end up running a retirement home for edible animals. I don’t think that will happen, even if they are hugely endearing. I do think Oxford Sandy and Blacks are going to be our pig of choice going forward though. I am actively looking forward to going and spending time watching them and the children adore them already. They have such little personalities! But they have no names.
