A few shots from the “pop-up” exhibition that I helped put together for the Parsons Benefit on Monday night, which featured work by notable Parsons alumni dating from the late 1940s to today. Pieces from the @parsonsfashionstudycollection by Claire McCardell, Norman Norell, and Donald Brooks were shown alongside designs by other well-known alumni including Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Anna Sui, Donna Karan, Derek Lam, Proenza Schouler, Narciso Rodriguez, and so many more. I’ve probably never felt more proud to be a Parsons alumna myself and look forward to adding my own students to this list of illustrious alumni one day! At this week’s spectacular Parsons Benefit, the PFSC team put together a pop-up exhibition that celebrated generations of illustrious designers who have attended Parsons through historic garments from our study collection alongside pieces that have just recently been featured on runways. There, some of our favorite garments by Claire McCardell, Norman Norell, and Donald Brooks were shown alongside designs by other well-known alumni including Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Anna Sui, Donna Karan, Derek Lam, Proenza Schouler, Narciso Rodriguez, Kay Unger, and many more! By showcasing the ingenuity of Parsons’ graduates through eight decades of innovative fashion design, benefit attendees were invited to reflect upon how the latest group of Parsons graduates will help to continue this legacy of iconoclastic design through creativity, innovation, and a desire to challenge the status quo. We congratulate Kwan and fellow Parsons alum Joan Wong (@JningWong), BFA Communication Design '12, who illustrated the beautiful book covers.
