Last year I posted about these McVities Go Ahead slices. I came across these biscuits only because I was asked about how ‘healthy/good’ they were and if they were ok to have as a ‘healthy treat’.

What exactly is a healthy/good treat?
Health is perceived differently to different people. Some people see a healthy treat as one that is low in calories. Others are looking for better ingredients.
We know there is no such thing as good and bad food. Yes some foods are more nutritious than others we can’t deny or pretend that isn’t the case...but nutrition is not black and white.

What initially annoyed me about these biscuits was the marketing (slide right for why). I posted about the misleading packaging last year AND they have actually changed the packaging

The calorie content is now for 3 biscuits rather than one biscuit, which makes more sense since they are packaged as a serving of 3.

Other marketing strategies:
✅ Apples are featured on the packaging however only apple juice concentrate (aka sugar) is listed in the ingredients list . Hence the wording ‘Apple flavour’. The main fruit used is sultanas (25%) and added sugars are noted 5 times.
✅ They have now added 2 health halo terms to make them seem like a ‘good’ choice e.g ‘light biscuit’ and ‘low in saturated fat’.

Putting all this aside. What is a treat? To me a treat is something I eat for enjoyment.
Sure, I am all for better quality ingredients, but when it’s something that’s not consumed everyday I choose not to always focus on this.

Food companies are taking advantage of people looking for ‘healthy treats’, and it is important to remember if something sounds too good to be true, it often is (not always but often) and often with these ‘healthy treats’ you would serve yourself better just having what you actually want to eat in the first place!

If you allow yourself to enjoy small indulgences you won’t feel deprived and over compensate later! This is one of biggest issues we have as a society!

Remember everything in moderation is A-OK Occasional indulgences won’t derail your health even if you have a chronic condition!

3. Find a mentor to guide you .
I pulled myself out of a dark space. I got back on my feet so I know anyone can, but many don't know where to start. .
I'm always here to help ,but to make it more substantial I want to start by mentoring one person over a Skype call. Whatever you like, I'm here to help. .

Maintaining a healthy diet is important at every point in a woman’s life but especially important when trying to conceive a baby.
It’s important to understand the underlying issue when it comes to infertility or any health problem.
Many health problems are inter linked and majority of them all trace back to inflammation as an underlying source... Who would have though both infertility and heart disease may stem from the same root cause?!? I for one have a hard time eating vegetables that act as an anti inflammatory.... in place of that I have been drinking a mix of fruit and vegetable juices go get my anti oxidants!!

Creamy cheesy spinach dip pockets! I mixed up some drained cooked spinach, some whipped cream cheese, freshly shredded parmesan and mozzarella cheeses, some chopped garlic, dried Italian seasoning, a few squeezes of fresh lemon juice and loaded it all up into my fav @cutdacarb flatbreads! I sealed the seams with a beaten egg and pan fried them in a little oil. Let me just say these are my new favs! Cheesy, creamy, crunchy, and super flavorful! The best part?! These flatbreads only come in at 9grams of net carbs! don’t sleep on these flatbreads! I’ve been a fan of them for over a year now and they’ve helped me stay on track! I don’t miss bread or tortillas having these precious babies in my life! .
