Check out our pediatrician’s new office! Wow! Evelyn has been seen by the same pediatrician since discharge from the NICU, and he even was one of the intensivists caring for her while IN the NICU. Dr. Kevin has been an incredible piece in ensuring E’s whole body health has been looked after. And I am constantly grateful for his voice and assistance as we navigate this medical world. He and his wife dreamt of this space, to better serve the families he cares for, and I am just so happy for them, the details throughout are unreal! . On another note, we were in today for a follow up with E’s dietician. And I am proud to report, she is growing so well! Height is still slow progress, but there was a little progress (a whole cm in 2 months)! So we’ll take that. . A few months back I shared E had to go in for some blood work, as we wanted to be sure she was getting all the nutrients she needed (among other things that were being checked). I never shared the results, and I think important to share for those on the fence about a blended diet or with medical professionals on your team giving you push back. Nutritionally E gets as much or MORE than everything she needs (protein, iron, all the vitamins, minerals etc). The only thing she was low on was Vitamin D. Which wasn’t surprising, as the goats milk I give her is not fortified with Vitamin D (whereas most cows milk is). So we’ve increased her Vit D supplement, no problem. But other than that, she eats a mix between vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals, some super healthy, some with boxed Kraft dinner or sugar cookies (the usual toddler diets), and NO multivitamin. Of course every child and their needs are going to be different, but I felt REALLY proud that this was our results. Just reaffirmed me, and made me feel like saying “I told you so!” to a few on our team, and gives me confidence to continue feeding her as I do. . Fall 7 times, stand up 8. Some days I feel completely defeated. Not crying but tears will just roll down my face. I wish so much that we had the answers to help cure all of the sickness and disease out there. In pediatrics, these kids don’t drink alcohol to cause liver failure, they didn’t smoke to cause cardiac issues. Sometimes life just has a different plan for them and it breaks my heart because they’re just fighting for a second chance. It helps put into perspective that the things I’m facing are just minor inconveniences and obstacles. If you have a healthy body and mind, you already have so incredibly much to be grateful for. Just taking it one day at a time because all you can control is the present .
