“Having lost his kingdom & abandoned even his wives & infant son Akbar in his flight from India, the one asset Humayun kept with him was his glittering booty of gems.” Knowledge & possession of gemstones was an important asset for a king. In high risk environments, gems were sometimes the only things they had to offer to secure their lives, their kingdoms & their legacy. They kept them close on their person, usually in a pouch hung by a silk thread. The Mughal Emperor Humayun returned to India after 15 years in exile in Persia, “at the head of a cohort of Shah Tahmasp, the Persian monarch, which enabled him to recover his throne.” The key factor in this story, which swayed the course of history in Humayun’s favor, the rubies & diamonds he offered to the Persian Monarch . It is named the day of Cyrus The Great by "Save #Pasargard" Institute,[1] but is not registered in any national or international calendar. Cyrus the Great was the first King of Persia, who declared the first charter of human rights in the world, also known as the Cyrus Cylinder.
In October 539 BCE, the #Persian king Cyrus took Babylon, the ancient capital of an oriental empire covering modern Iraq, Syria, Lebanon(mainly these countries and the region including them as well as Jordan historically called and known as Sham). Several texts describe this event. In the Nabonidus Chronicle, for instance, is written that in the month of Arahsamna, the third day (29 October), Cyrus entered Babylon. ‏#bakhtiyari #cyrusday #cyrusthegreat ‏#xerxes #xerxesthegreat ‏#ancientpersia #persianempire #persianhistory #cyrus #dariusthegreat #civilization #cyrus_the_great

~ The Persian military commander, Pantea Arteshbod ~ . Pantea Arteshbod (550 BCE) was a Persian commander during the reign of Cyrus the Great, who ruled from 559—529 BCE. Pantea Arteshbod’s husband was General Aryasb, or Archaemenid Artheshbod. Pantea, also a commander, worked jointly with her husband to secure Persian rule. After Cyrus the Great’s successful conquest of the Neo-Babylonian Empire in 547 BCE, Pantea Arteshbod kept law and order in Babylonia, ensuring peace and a successful transition. Furthermore, she and her husband were commanders of an elite force known as “The Immortals”. They doubled as the Imperial Guard and a formidable standing army. They were called Immortals because they were always kept 10,000 strong. Those who died were instantly replaced, causing the army to never dwindle. They were an elite corps of Cyrus the Great’s armies. #Iranian ‎‏#everydayIran #everydayEverywhere #irantravel #iranphoto #hystory #history #Life #historian #ancient #archaeology #mausoleum #history #Alexander #Macedonian #ArioBarzan #Emperor #perisan #historyofiran #persianhistory #mustseeiran

The coronation of a Persian Empress might seem an event worthy of the glorious ancient times or fascinating oriental stories (just look at those emeralds...), but the one of Shahbanu Farah Pahlavi and her husband, Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, took place only 51 years ago. Did you know that Empress Farah was the only imperial consort to hold the title of "Shahbanu" in more than 1300 years? Before her, the last two Sassanian empresses, Purandokht and Azarmidokht (c. 630), were the last two carriers of this title, before the Sassanian empire (which is often considered the peak of Iranian civilisation) was conquered by the Muslims. As an empress during Sassanid times, the principal Shahbanu was also titled bâmbişnân bâmbişn ("Queen of Queens") analogous to the emperor's title şâhânşâh (lit. "King of Kings") to distinguish her from the other queens in the royal household. Farah Pahlavi sometimes continues to be referred to as Shahbanu, as is customarily done internationally for titleholders associated with abolished monarchies, but the title is no longer valid in Iran. According to pre-revolutionary rules, Yasmine Pahlavi, Crown Princess of Iran, would currently hold this title. ⚜️#empressfarahpahlavi

~ The royalmother and daughter, Cassandane and Atossa ~ Cassandane was an Achaemenian Persian noblewoman and the "dearly loved" wife of Cyrus the Great. She was a daughter of Pharnaspes. She bore four children for Cyrus (may be 5 based : Cambyses II, who succeeded his father and conquered Egypt; Smerdis (Bardiya), who also reigned as the king of Persia for a short time; a daughter named Atossa, who later wed Darius the Great; and another daughter named Roxana. Her daughter Atossa later played an important role in the Achaemenid royal family, as she married Darius the Great and bore him the next Achaemenid king, Xerxes I. Atossa had a "great authority" in the Achaemenid royal house and her marriage with Darius I is likely due to her power, influence and the fact that she was a direct descendant of Cyrus. When Cassandane died, all the nations of Cyrus' Persian empire observed "a great mourning". This is reported by Herodotus. . When Darius I defeated the followers of a man claiming to be Bardiya (Smerdis), the younger brother of Cambyses II in 522 BC, he married Atossa. Atossa had a great authority in the Achaemenid royal house and her marriage with Darius I is likely due to her power, influence and the fact that she was a direct descendant of Cyrus. Xerxes I was the eldest son of Atossa and Darius. Atossa lived to see Xerxes invade Greece. Atossa's special position enabled Xerxes, who was not the eldest son of Darius, to succeed his father. Assuming that I selected the right pictures, the images show the Aswaran of the Sasanian empire. I think one of the most notable parts in history is the conflict between Byzantium and the Sasanian empire. Christians probably can relate to the wars of 622-628, where Heraclius would eventually crush Khusro the second. ▪︎▪︎▪︎ The Aswaran would be employed by the Sasanians and were basically armoured horse warriors that could act as cataphracts or ranged support. ▪︎▪︎▪︎ You can see that they often had a mail and scale mail ,which gave decent protection against arrows, and mobility. The armour which often covered them very heavily. I believe that for protecting the head they would wear the spangenhelm and carried a variety of weapons. The most famous I believe is the kontos. Now apparently this was a very long powerful spear upto 4 metres long with the capability of skewering two enemy warriors. Because of length, the riders may have had to use their knees to steers the horse as they grasped the kontos with both hands and drove into the enemy. My first attempts at covering the Persian piece of history so I welcome corrections and feedback. #Persia#persianhistory#byzantine#Byzantium#Christianity#zoroastrianism#7thcentury#Islamichistory#Classicalhistory#Asianhistory#middleast#Militaryhistory
