Fitness Playground Presents: MOVEMENT FUNDAMENTALS. . . The fitness industry can be overwhelming, information is everywhere. . . But knowing how to filter that information to what is needed and when it's needed can be confusing, even daunting. . . Nobody wants to be that trainer that prescribes exercises without understanding the reason for doing so, whose clients never appear to make progress. . . The expectation of what a Personal Trainer is capable of has grown far beyond counting reps and we want to make sure that our trainers not only meet those expectations but exceed them. The exercises you choose are the tip of the spear when it comes to creating change, a lot of trainers are spending time and money on sharpening the spear but not many are practising their aim. . . Movement Fundamentals was built to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the principles and concepts of effective coaching. A system designed to equip you with the tools required to turn knowledge into action and make your clients and yourself successful. . . Run by @mattduncanpt & @tommerriman_ . . 2-DAY WORKSHOP. Friday 19 & Saturday 20-July. FP Marrickville. . . Training tip Tuesday _____________________________________________________________ Use band assisted Nordic hamstring curls to build a more resilient, better looking posterior chain. The hamstrings, we know, are used to flex the knee and extend the hips. Most people train lots of hip extension movements such as the deadlift, hip thrust, Romanian deadlifts, and kettlebell swings. Then, when we train knee flexion, it’s often limited to machine based leg curls or stability ball curls. While those are all fantastic posterior chain exercises in their own right, Nordic hamstring curls take it to another level. Personally, I like to assist my students with a little bit of band resistance for more control over more range of motion. Unless an athlete can control the entire movement with a slow eccentric descent, it’s a good idea to go ahead and add a band. You can attach a couple bands to a squat rack or use a partner Here, my incredibly strong and athletic student, Kaitlin @kaitlincparker , shows us how it’s done with excellent form. If you’re an athlete, would like to run faster, or would just to shape your backside, give this a go if you’ve progressed to this properly.

Posted @withrepost • @chrisj_marino Who was it that decided all flat free weight benches should be ~18 inches off the floor? ⠀ If you’re between 5’6” and 6’ then you’re in luck. If you’re shorter than 5’6” then your either wrenching your low back to reach the floor or putting your feet on the bench and sacrificing stability. ⠀ If you’re taller than 6’ your hips are too flexed to use your glutes to ground yourself to create stability and leverage. ⠀ As a trainer, it’s our job to set our clients up for success, and customizing their setups is a good place to start. ⠀ For clients under 5’6” it’s an easy fix. You can simply throw a set of lifting blocks under their feet. Bumper plates make a good option too, as you can select the perfect elevation based on the height of your client. ⠀ The client in the video has SI Joint issues, so we use slightly higher boxes to take stress off her lower back. ⠀ If you’re over 6’, unfortunately they have yet to come up with a taller bench for you. Instead, you have to stretch your legs wider so that your knees are level with or slightly below your knees. ⠀ Of course you could just simply avoid using all barbell and dumbbell pressing movements from your programs? I actually have a hard time imaging that many of us are going to do that. Just remember that 99% of your clients are never going to enter a powerlifting competition. Look to customize everything to elevate their success! #personaltraining #benchpresstips #marinosfitness #personaltrainerdevelopment #fitnesseducation #exercisemodifications #learntolift

#trainlifefitacademy summer series is a wrap! This was an amazing group of talent that is on their way to changing the lives of their clients and other coaches around them . That last part is key . When I first started in the industry it was hard to find communities that were committed to growth and non dogmatic approaches. If you were to find mentors, you had to go and seek them out one by one, and then go learn from them. Sure there were certifications, but they often lacked comprehensiveness /only wanted to meet standard guidelines. They only waited for a study to prove something , versus also looking at what works in the real world. There was/and in someways still a disconnect between real world application and science. There’s also a gap between theory and hands on experience. And last , there is often the let’s put the guru on a pedestal mindset when it comes to training education . I wanted to smash all of that. That means cultivate a space where everyone becomes aware of how to critically think first ! That meant a ton of self awareness, and the immediate notion that all of us are here to teach each other. It’s not enough just to coach a client , but being able to translate this to other leaders around you creates a meta awareness and a deeper understanding of the material. And to me , the ultimate form of leadership is leaders leading others to lead . So yes, we want you to truly break down an assessment anatomically from head to toe, and automatically be able to pre-empt how a client may move given the goals they provided . We then want you to be able to look at how they move , and be able to layer on cues step by step to help a client understand how to maximize self awareness around what to feel and when to feel it in movement . From that information be able to program training progressions and regressions dependent on the training frequency, biomechanics, and unique lifestyle factors. We want you to understand efficiency but first get practice learning how to get a steam of consciousness around what’s best for your client . From there, we want you to understand the utility of each kind of movement from literally every discipline there is
