I’ve never told this story before . In 12th grade I had straight A’s in honors classes - 103% in honors English while I’m tooting my own horn . Here’s the catch though: they weren’t going to let me graduate . I missed a total of about 45-50 days of school . I was in the hospital for everything from West Nile Virus, Swine flu, ribs popped out of place (yay muscle relaxers), and a broken pelvic bone to name a few . Most days I couldn’t get out of bed in the morning because my body was swollen and stiff with rheumatoid arthritis . I was prescribed at least 7 different medications to help with my “chronic depression”, “crippling anxiety”, “insomnia” and any other label they wanted to throw at me . What you don’t see behind everything I just mentioned was a toxic life which I had to run from at the age of 17 in order to start healing . Without getting into details, all it took for the school board to change their mind was a single letter from me explaining what my life was like at home... and I was allowed to graduate (but ONLY after sitting in the school office for 5 hours the day after graduation so all the secretaries could hug me and feed me candy ) . The 800 doctors notes weren’t enough. My grades weren’t enough. But proving myself and realizing the battles I overcame was the magic touch . My battles are my story . My battles MADE me because I CHOSE to not let them break me . This is Greg. Greg is a Phoenix Firefighter, a husband, a father, a fisherman, outdoorsman, free spirit and all around good guy. Greg is what you can call a badass. He is good at his job, he is good at life. Everytime I blink this guy is pulling a child from a fire, giving the elderly one more shot at life, solving an emergency situation or just making someone’s day better with a smile. Greg was awarded the firefighter of the year award. Well deserved. Watching Greg fight fires and save lives is about the closest thing you will experience to God creating life. Big shoutout to Greg.
