Did you know I have about 35 different styles in my shop?! .
.
If I wanted to facilitate the biz aspect of things, I would cut down this number, but actually I am GROWING IT! and adding 4728101 more styles because that’s my favorite aspect of it all.

Plus a girl needs choices, right?!

Hey, it's me, Isis. I haven't done an intro in a while, so it's about time for one! Telling you up front that this isn't a traditional "10 random facts about me" but more of a behind the scenes of running your own business.⠀
.⠀
When people ask me what I do they think shooting and editing is what I do day in and day out. But the truth is that 75% of the time I am not editing or shooting. ⠀
.⠀
How's that? When running your own business you are never only the photographer, designer, illustrator or artist. You are also the manager, the secretary, the marketeer, the VA, the financial department, the graphic designer, customer services and the assistant. A company, however small, has a gazillion different roles and things it needs to do to keep going.⠀
.⠀
In order to keep growing and progressing in my work, both creatively and on the business front, I have to make sure that I keep doing all those things properly, and at the end of all that set aside time for personal work, for following workshops and for going to photography/wedding industry conventions. ⠀
.⠀
I think that when we start out with our businesses we all seriously underestimate those 75% of business work. There is so much to think about and it can get totally overwhelming at times. ⠀
.⠀
Knowing those two numbers - 25% and 75% - is going to help you so much at valuing your worth as a creative entrepreneur. And, as a customer buying from other creatives it will help us understand why handmade is costly. It wil make us realise that most creatives undercharge rather than overcharge and make us see the endless amount of unconditional love they pour into their product. ⠀
.⠀
Ok, done preaching for now. But I think this is so important!⠀

A modern and professional Main Logo design for @capturecophoto that is classic, yet fresh. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⌓ ⌓ ⌓⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The primary goal was to set a strong first impression, and my favourite aspect of this design is the bold typeface we chose. This font contains a variety of ingredients, featuring prominent wedge-shapes and a strong contrast, with details that have a calligraphic feel. Linking the two words "Capture" and "Co." provides a sense of cohesiveness, and the asymmetry provides uniqueness. The lines and angles of the "+" symbol mimic a camera shutter and the circle at the top right mimics a camera lens, which are both a subtle nod to the industry.
Quick update. Keeping the head down working on an exciting new brand refresh. Testing in different formats, over photos, in print, different colours, sizes and I’m happy now! I wanted something bespoke, clean and classic, but also nature-inspired. I’m the fussiest client I know! New website and new content to follow. .

Maybe you don’t want script in your primary logo but you still like the personality it brings with it? That’s what submarks, alt logos, and additional brand elements are for.
-
Custom signatures are a great brand detail for when you don’t want to stick your logo on something but you still want to put your name on it.
-
“Ok cool, G, I get that in theory...but what does that really mean? When would I actually use it?”
-
Good Qs. So glad you asked. I like to use these sorts of details on/in items that are already branded with your logo. I hate redundancy and slapping people over the face with logologologo. You don’t want your website or marketing materials to feel like a car product placement in a movie. -
Signature graphics are great for, well, signatures. If there’s a place where you break the fourth wall and speak directly to a [potential/current/former] client, use it there. The welcome letter in your client welcome packet or pricing guide. After your bio blurb on your about page (if you write in first person). On the back of envelopes you use to send thank you cards as a cool visual detail.
-
The possibilities are not endless, but where the signature fits, it fits well. And that’s the point. It’s specific. It’s intentional.
I worked on logo design for Carolina Nicola Studios, a photography business. They are inspired by nature elements. Let me know what you think.
