Scapular Isolation + Segmental Rotation with Foam Roller or Soft Ball Why people suffering from Scoliosis and/or Frozen Shoulder should do this? This is an incredible exercise whether you suffer from those conditions or you are completely healthy. 1. The arm outstretched on the roller/ball helps protraction, gliding scapula fwd and then back in. Lie down on unaffected side! If you have frozen shoulder ** keep elbow straight throughout** 2. Segmental rotation, head moves fwd as scapula (shoulder blade) moves, rib cage moves, obliques very intensely active, hips move and a little bit of knee. #pilatesrehab Here’s a snippet of my Pilates workout from last night. I frequently get asked by patients if I think they should do Yoga and/or Pilates.‍♀️‍♀️ And while yoga is something I do regularly, Pilates is new to me! So I’ve been gaining some insight into Pilates-based rehab from a clinician at my work who is Pilates certified (yeah PTs, you can do that) in order to educate people and use components of it as treatment if they so choose. (#patientpreference) ‍⚕️‍♀️‍⚕️ ‍♀️ So what are the rehab benefits of Pilates? Well for one, it’s based on a foundation of core strength and correcting muscle imbalances. #corestrength Engaging leg and arm muscles with the core while in the supine position allows more fear-avoidant patients to experience positive movement in a non-threatening way. You can progress from basic —> advanced movements with small adjustments to resistance or foot/hand placement, modifications for pain are easily made, and you can work every part of your body on one machine (example A^) At the very least, have a working knowledge of what this popular movement practice is so that when patients ask you about it, you know how to respond
