have you ever been afraid of getting exactly what you want? . i think it’s easy to be on the side of “he left, and he never loved me” or “she just stopped talking to me so she must not have felt anything.” when the reality is: WE DON’T KNOW. these are all just stories we’re creating in our heads from our own past experiences and perspective of life. . as humans, we are built for love and connection. there’s been many scientific researches showing the opposite of addiction is connection— we are a species that thrives on community, we need each other— some of us are just a lot more messy at it because of our childhood, past trauma, and lack of tools to help us thrive in connection. . so many people are afraid of love, of getting exactly what they want, and it shows up in either overly clinging (in psychology it’s known as anxious attachment which is 25% of the population) to their relationships or avoiding (avoidant attachment which is 25% of the population) altogether. both are just insecure attachments for connection (we want to aim to become securely attached which is 50% of the population)— we just tend to romanticize the clingy ones and hate on the others that react by avoiding. neither is better or worse than the other. . so be compassionate toward those that cling or those that avoid— understand their outward projection of pain comes from a place where others have treated them badly so they are afraid. it doesn’t mean you have to stay— keep your boundaries, but i’d encourage all of us to come with more understanding and less blame toward anxious clingers and running avoiders. we all want connection just the same, getting there is just a little more difficult for some people. . @olivia.ku || #healyourheart · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · words © 2019 || photo grid 1 of 12 . #twinflame #attachmentissues #healingquotes #mentalhealthquotes #selfhealers #feeler
