Took a bit, but today I colored in these sketches I did in between my recoveries! I’ve spent time thinking about alternate endings and subplots to my story to make it less generic, and one of the subplots was a parallel to the portal 2 subplot with GLaDOS being downgraded to a potato battery after being forced out of her own system and the facility’s control by Wheatley (the potato battery was actually Chell’s childhood project - look up more about it and it’ll make sense). I’ve pulled a lot from Portal, putting aspects of Chell into Benny (liking cake, living in the facilities, destroying BioTech), and GLaDOS into Gladys Durcell (her name, she controls BioTech like GLaDOS controls aperture, runs tests) as well as pulling from the story itself. As stated in the second slide, the parallel would involve Durcell’s entirety being downloaded into Benny’s systems accidentally, when he was only aiming to download Durcell’s files that would give him everything he needed to know to get through BioTech and sabotage her project with Mindead. Durcell is someone Benny hates almost blindly as the story goes on, and to end up being stuck with her when he’s going through the facility practically alone would be something I’d like to explore a bit. I’ve been rewriting Durcell’s motives to attempt to make her a “better” antagonist, and I’m wondering if some characteristics I’m adding make it justifiable to redeem her. So I’m seeing if I can save her somehow, and use Portal’s “potato battery” concept like this to have Benny hold onto her subconscious, and put it into a different machine later. (Which is possible, as Durcell is almost entirely robotic anyways, pretty much void of organic substance anymore). The concept is still VERY loose though and I’m unsure if I will be going down this path. It’s fun to work out though! The concept is interesting to me but I will scrap it if it’s unnecessary.
