It's been estimated that about three quarters of women experience headaches, bloating, difficulty sleeping, mood swings and other symptoms of PMS — symptoms that are debilitating and threaten our relationships.⠀⠀
.⠀⠀
And let's be real, menstrual cramps are the worst! Yes, they are common, but it is not normal to be at the mercy of your period!⠀⠀
.⠀⠀
PMS is driven by...⠀⠀
⚡An imbalance in hormones — namely, your estrogen is dominant, either absolute or relative to progesterone, the latter being more common.⠀⠀
.⠀⠀
⚡Diets rich in sugar, refined carbohydrate, non-organic meat, conventional dairy products and caffeine promote hormone imbalances. Whereas, diets that are low in these foods, plus include vegetables, plenty of fiber, and healthy fats help balance hormones.⠀⠀
.⠀⠀
⚡Stress, environmental pollutants and hormone-disrupting chemicals in our environment also induce these hormone changes, as does excess stress.⠀⠀
.⠀⠀
⚡Constipation keeps your body from releasing estrogen from the body and alcohol can inhibit your liver from processing estrogen — both of which lead to estrogen dominance.⠀⠀
.⠀⠀
⚡And lack of exercise can also cause hormones to fall out of balance. Daily movement is necessary to keep your hormones in balance.⠀⠀
.⠀⠀
When healing PMS and cramps in my clinic, we focus on these 5 areas as a starting place to begin eliminating symptoms while we dig deeper for the individual's root cause. ⠀⠀

Full moon Did you ovulate or menstruate?⠀
⠀
This full moon in Sagittarius was also a strawberry moon and boy did it have me awake last night. Even with black out curtains I could feel it. So I opened my curtains and embraced it.⠀
⠀
Want to get in sync with the moon cycle? Go moon bathing!⠀
⠀
I talk about this in #beyondthepill. Us gals are synced with the moon phases and will typically bleed or ovulate with the full moon or new moon. Exposing yourself to moonlight alters melatonin, which can shift your cycle and may even help get you ovulating again. It’s why I prescribe it for women coming off of birth control. It’s a great practice to prevent those #postbirthcontrolsyndrome woes!⠀
⠀
Now artificial light can mess up your cycle, which has been documented in studies since the 1970’s. That’s why I rock the amber glasses and sleep with black out curtains. But that once a month moon light isn’t disruptive like the non-stop lights in our homes.⠀
⠀
So let me know, do you get your period with the full moon? Or did you ovulate?⠀
⠀
I menstruate with the full moon. ⠀

I can't even with these practitioners telling women that their concerns are normal. She's concerned, so for her, it isn't normal.
.
Girl, you live in your body, which makes you the freak'n expert of what YOUR normal is.
.
Sure, there are some changes & there are things to be expected. But dismissing women's symptoms & concerns needs to stop.
.
"It's normal." (psst common is not normal)
.
"It's part of getting older." (STOP with that)
.
"You're a mom, of course you feel terrible." (Just no!)
.
"It's in your head." (Yeah, my concerns are on repeat, but that doesn't make them less real.)
.
"There's no research to support your concerns." (Um, so you're saying that I have to wait for a study before you'll believe me?)
.
Ladies, that's all BS. Total & Complete BS!
.

Gratitude can improve your hormones!⠀⠀
⠀⠀
When we get grateful the feel good hormones rise, the stress hormones drop and our body is free to align with what we need.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
I have a daily gratitude practice and I recommend it to all my patients. It's simple. Just write down 3-10 things you're grateful for and let the feelings flood your system.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Feeling the gratitude is key. If you struggle with that, you may need to first get into your body with mindful walking, meditation, or Qi gong.⠀⠀

What you put on your skin most definitely gets into your body. If what you're putting on your skin has endocrine disruptors (chemicals that mess with your hormones) then you better believe symptoms of hormone imbalance will follow.⠀
⠀
At some point in my 20’s I got it in my head that women were supposed to smell like vanilla. Looking back, in my attempt to smell like the “perfect woman,” I was bathing in lotions & huffing fragrances that were wrecking my hormones.⠀
⠀
From #BeyondthePill "Women are exposed to hundreds of hormone-disrupting chemicals each day before they even leave their homes. If you use common brands of shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, face wash, or body lotion with the frequency of an average American woman, you are exposing your body to hundreds of these chemicals daily, as well as chemicals that are known to be carcinogenic (cancer-causing agents).⠀
⠀
Yet there are few regulations when it comes to what manufacturers can add to these products. Many contain estrogenic substances—meaning they act like estrogen but are artificial hormones—which can wreak havoc on your body."⠀
⠀
What to do?⠀
1. Read labels & avoid things like parabens, triclosan, BHA, phthalates, & lead. Yes, lead can live in your makeup.⠀
2. Check your products on EWG skin deep. You want mostly 1-2 rating.⠀
3. Start tossing anything in the 7-10 ASAP. Not worth it.⠀
4. Start phasing out using multiple products with 3-6 rating. Note: Sometimes they rate something like a 3 because it has Lemon balm (Melissa off) in it & they are highlighting that if you use a full product line you'd get exposed to this a lot. This is herb is not really an issue for the large majority of the population & it isn't in therapeutic doses like it would be in a supplement.⠀
⠀
One company that I ❤ is Annmarie Skin Care. You guys know I use this personally. I use their Aloe Herb Cleanser & Anti-Aging Serum everyday! For a limited time, you can get both of those for $10 (free shipping in the US & Canada) plus their Anti-Aging Facial Oil & Illuminating Pearl Mask (both also in my skin routine) as bonuses!⠀

I wrote Beyond the Pill for you. I wrote it for me. I wrote it for us.
.
This is the dedication in my book. To every little girl who was dismissed. To every woman who forged the path so we could see. To every woman, I love, honor, support, and stand with you.
.
I was told I talked too much. Every report card, "she talks too much." As if that was a flaw. As if it was something women shouldn't do.
.
And I asked too many questions. My teachers, parents, doctors, and every point of "authority" was there to remind me that, "girl, you ask too many questions."
.
I had a minute where I stopped. I had a minute where I gave up my power. And I suffered.
.
Never again. We (you and me) have NEVER talked too much. We have NEVER asked too many questions.
.
And WE are just getting started.
.
Your body. Your life. One shot. Will you live it to its fullest? Because I for one will not even for a minute take a back seat to my health or let one more of my sisters be told she should "do what she is told" or that "it is all in your head" or that "this is just what it is like to be a woman."
.
Do you know what it is like to be a woman? An epic creator of all life with hormones that make you a super hero and intuition that brings you next level knowledge that everyone who has ever dismissed you only wish they could get in on.
.
I have no patience for haters. I have no patience for those who would hold us down. I have zero patience for anyone who tells us questioning the conventional narrative is wrong.
.
Question everything through the lens of "what is true for me?"
.
#BeyondthePill will help you understand your body, troubleshoot your symptoms, own your path, and understand what is true for you.
.
I wrote it for you. I wrote it for me. I wrote it for us. And now, I need you to help us change women's medicine for the better. You in? Tag a friend, share the book, leave a review, take action and lets make change.
.
2019 is our year!
