My newish fully programmable kiln has broken down this week, so I’m back to using my ancient but trusty manual kiln. I had forgotten how much work is involved in running downstairs every hour to check / adjust the power level and keep on schedule. It’s hard work. A big shout out to all you potters out there firing like this on the regular.
I’m feeling all sorts of excited, nervous, focused, stressed, and happy, all at once, this week. I’m pushing to finish a heap of work for my upcoming show while manically throwing new pieces in anticipation of my studio move on Monday. ♥️UPDATE: I’ve been offered a (actually two!) wheel(s)to borrow! A big thanks to everyone who reached out to offer up a loaner wheel. Feeling very grateful and loved! ♥️I’m losing access to the wheel I’ve been using in my current studio (thank you @tamarabpottery ) and was wondering if anyone out there might have an electric wheel they’re not using, that I could borrow for a few months, until I gather the funds to purchase new one? Also, I’m pretty sure I know what wheel I’d like to get but would like to try a few others out before I decide and borrowing one would give me the time to do this. ⚱️If this is something you have and are open to it, please DM me. P.S. I’d be more than happy to trade for the favor! ———————————————

Variation.
These pieces are made from the same clay, with the same glaze, and were fired in different parts of the kiln during the same firing. The larger of my two kilns fires pretty unevenly, and although I’m usually pretty good at strategic placement sometimes it’s easy to slack off a bit and get complacent...and then this. Which is ok if variation is what you want, but annoying if it’s not.
Any suggestions for how to even out the temperature during the last stages of a stoneware firing gratefully accepted ❤️
