It’s always leg day with @moverightpt & I’m not mad! Started by torching my posterior chain with some SSB Bulgarians before speed work. I timed my rest sets and everything #overachiever

Lifting is pretty much the only thing I can count on to brighten my mood on a really, really hard day. Feeling extra thankful to see the words “heavy,” even if they’re only front squats. .

Taking our traditional Step Up position and tinkering with the execution adding in the active foot position.
A trained eye will observe that sport is rife with step up execution in the form of sprinting, jumping, and contacting competitors. Yet, we rarely find coaches or gyms teaching execution or properly applying the movement to ensure transfer of training from the gym to the sporting arena, or even life.
This presents a major problem for athletes, no matter what they are training for.
The importance of teaching proper step up execution to your athletes cannot be emphasized enough. Many novice athlete strength training programs default to bi-lateral strength movements because they're easy to teach and safe to overload. This approach works, but will hinder preparedness when these athletes step out of the gym and onto the field.
First, notice the height of the box. Taller is not better. Set up should get your knee below your hip crease, not above.
Second, check out how I'm loading up the front leg and active foot for a big posterior chain PULL to move my body through space.
Lastly, the finish. Be proficient in BOTh the force reduction, fight through the eccentric return to the floor with dorsiflexion vs a free fall plantar reach Achilles smash, and force production, that badass pull through and graceful catch.

If you have watched the session with Scott & @chrisrenshaww (if you haven’t, go and watch it on the YouTube channel now), you’ll know that our focus for the session was combining powerful, explosive movements around the goal with controlled technical elements, such as central volleys or low saves ⚽️
.
.
Being able to effectively fluctuate between extreme physical exertion and controlled mental decision making (or even both at the same time) is a key area of goalkeeping. For example, you make a triple save, putting the ball out for a corner. Are you then able to control yourself, concentrate, subdue the adrenaline and make the correct decision with the subsequent cross, demonstrating clean technique and decision making? .
.
Being in total control of your physical and mental state is key, alongside knowing when you need to calm yourself, or explode into an action. It’s something that can be worked on in training, but is as much a mental skill as a physical one!
Footwork
.
.
There’s a lot of focus on shot stopping within goalkeeping - as there should be - but there’s no chance of making the top saves without effective footwork
.
.
Short, sharp steps, constantly adjusting your weight and positioning in order to make the save. Drills like this one help you to develop the fast, effective footwork needed when moving around the goal, and to get you in the perfect position to switch on the power and make the save
