Niagara Mohawk Building. 1930-32. Bley and Lyman.
I'm moving back into a regular rotation and, for now, moving on from Providence. I hope Liz Rochefort will forgive me. To make it up, I'm going to Syracuse, where I'll start with the Niagara Mohawk Building, a structure she said she loved. People, please follow @lizrochefort.
The Niagara Mohawk was built at the Art Deco era's zenith. Bley and Lyman, a Buffalo firm, made use of black Vitrolite glass, which sparkles in the daytime. The piers and ornament add verticality, which is accentuated by recessed spandrels. The building caught the attention of @atlasobscura, which opined that the Niagara Mohawk belonged in the same conversation as the Chrysler Building. Big but worthy praise.

Spent yesterday walking around in my Aunt and Uncle’s neighborhood in St. Louis. So many beautiful houses! This is on Flora Place that was designed to lead to the Missouri botanical gardens. I’ll take it!
Windcrest sits on the top of Missionary Ridge in Chattanooga and was designed by architect Samuel Patton. I got to tour this beauty when it went up for auction a few years ago and fell in love! ❤️My super talented friend is the designer on the home’s remodel.
