Day 6 of #pressrequest ❤️ Working on hamstrings today also working on the negative.....lowering down as slowly as possible. Another lightbulb moment today when it sank in that the higher we lift our tail bones when folding the easier it is to press up and lower down! DAY 7 #pressrequest ‍♀️. I will share my best tip . ...... 1:Don’t overthink it- Feel it. Our body’s are designed differently. What kind of stretch and witch body parts do you need to strengthen to be able to press? 2: Active patience - you can’t just sit down and wait for it to come, you need to work for it. And if you get upset about not being able to press, I promise it won’t work. 3: #SuryaNamaskar :Practice-float-back chaturanga (whit out a jump). Sun salutations provide a great canvas for practicing your press-up handstands, regardless of what stage you’re at. Each of the techniques here-glide, jump, hover, and press-up-are steps along the path to feeling your press-up handstand. Keep your gaze forward, shift your shoulders past your wrists, and use your hands (and fingers!) as stabilizers. Even before your feet leave the ground (or couch/chair or block), try to position your hips over your head (tippy-toes can help!), and think of your tailbone leading the way. Resist the urge to jump and, instead, draw your navel toward your spine to rely on alignment, control, and physics instead of momentum. And when it is time in your practice, you will fly . Day 5 of #pressrequest oblique strengthening today ‍♂️I made a teeny bit of progress with my puppy press handstands today!I’ve realised a little more what is required to get that slow press, the over leaning as if you’re about to fall and the drawing in and sucking up internally, activating so many muscle groups. Although it’s baby steps I feel really pleased and excited, I believe I’ll get there eventually! Day 3 of #pressrequest CORE strengthening todayOoh those ploughs to crows @gabrielle_edwards_yoga !hardcore! Before I started yoga I trained in Taekwon-do, I thought I had a strong core then but yoga and the drills like these today challenge and build my strength way beyond I imagined, it makes me laugh when people say to me yoga’s too sedentary for them!They don’t realise that by building strength slowly focusing deep on each muscle group, SQUEEZING!! and making strong foundations takes them eventually to be able to do amazing things, there’s NO QUICK FIX, it’s patience and perseverance that wins) I still have so far to go but I’m really encouraged by my progress. The press to handstand requires incredible core strength there isn’t a short cut, but that’s fine, I’m in it for the long haul!
