I was scrolling the #rememberinglions hashtag, as I wanted to review a Lion image to raise a little awareness for the amazing work that @rememberingwildlife is doing. Of all the images, this powerful silhouette by @daniel_bailey_photography grabbed my attention. *** ————————————————————NatGeo has reached 100 million followers ————————————————————#natgeo100contest ———————————————————— #malamalagamereserve #malamalamoments #itsallaboutthewildlife #lion #lioness #predator #rememberinglions #gold #luxurysafari #privateguide #photography #photographicguide #canon #passion #africa #safari #wildlife *** OUR REVIEW: Silhouettes are in my opinion two dimensional and flat. However, when depth is created, by layering the silhouettes and having some show a little detail the image becomes a little more complex. Daniel did exactly this with the Lion in the middle showing the details of its legs. What helps this is that the light beams guide your eye from the top of the frame straight towards the lightest part of the image where this middle lion is silhouetted. There is just enough separation so the middle lion is not "growing out of" the lions left and right of it. I will question the crop and camera orientation. A square crop would have worked well with this image as there is a fair amount of dead space at the bottom of the frame. Alternatively, a landscape orientation will use this extra space to the left and right of the lions, giving the photo an environmental feel. *** What are your thoughts on this image?
