I had to snap a photo of these @penguinclassics Deluxe Editions I spotted at @posmanbooks a few weeks ago in NYC.
•
I am a HUGE fan of these editions - they flip the script on “boring classics”, making you take a second look at a book you might be tempted to skip over if there was a 19th century painting of an old dude on the front instead.
•
They also confirm my deeply held belief that books can also be works of art.
•
What do you think - are you a fan of these or no?
Every year I look forward to Vintage Classics’ new paperback series... and this year they’ve got a range of Iris Murdoch titles for the centenary of her birth!
They’ve been designed by Bijou Karman and are going to be stunning additions to my bookshelf. I think it’s so important to acknowledge the hard work and craftsmanship that goes into making each book cover stand out and shine, and these are perfect examples of beautiful covers.
I’ve never read any Iris Murdoch before so I’d love to know if you’ve read any of her books and if so, which you think I should start with! I’m spoilt for choice!
(Not sponsored, I’m just VERY ENTHUSIASTIC about how gorgeous these are!)

These are my June to July carryover books. I’ve been trying to read 25 pages of Middlemarch each day so I’m slowly but surely making my way through it. I have to say, I’m enjoying this book so much more out of the classroom setting. I’m getting to fall in love with the characters instead of analyzing the politics of the book and that is really working for me!! I’m almost done with On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous on audio and I know I’m going to want to immediately reread it in paper. This definitely isn’t a book I could teach in its entirety but there are some sections that would pair beautifully with The Things They Carried so I want to go back and pinpoint some of those. And then there’s The Most Fun We Ever Had. This might end up being my favorite book of the year so far. I love a family drama always, but this is the best one I’ve read in a very long time. I plan to finish today or tomorrow so I don’t need to bring an almost-finished book on vacation with me over the 4th of July. What books are you currently reading?
.
Thank you @doubledaybooks for gifting me a copy of The Most Fun We Ever Had to review.

Stacks upon stacks lately. My latest book haul threw me into a bit of a fit over the state of my main bookshelf recently. While M has her beautiful bookshelves up and running, I’m patiently waiting to put custom shelves in. It really is a good thing I’m so patient. Until then, I’m working with what I have, and happily took my books off the shelf and reorganized them better. I started losing track of some and that’s always a sure sign to get it together. It made me realize, though, how much I really do love my books and am thankful for the ability to read whatever I please. You really do feel a kinship with the stories and worlds you’re apart of. This book life is the best life, friends. What was your last book purchase?
Happy Monday! How was your weekend friends? We spent so much time out in the sunshine, it was beyond wonderful. Spring is definitely in the air and we’re soaking it up as much as possible. We’ve been slowly reading our respective March books, even slower on our classic buddy read, but that’s okay, there’s no pressure and it’s lovely so far. What are you reading this week?
You spoke and we heard you. Favorite classics from our favorite readers, you, are compiled on our blog today. I’m so enamored with your definitive favorites and truly hope to find one (or three?) that I can call my own. From Tolstoy to Woolf to Montgomery and Austen, many are most beloved, but there were some that surprised me. Could you pick one favorite from our list? Our picks would be Steinbeck and Fitzgerald.
After reading Far From the Madding Crowd, which Thomas Hardy novel do you recommend reading next?

Today was my school’s last day of finals and while I still have quite a bit of grading to do, it’s finally starting to feel like summer. I have so many books I’m looking forward to reading over the next few months but one of my most anticipated reads is I CAPTURE THE CASTLE. I adored this book when I was younger and adding it to our students’ summer reading list is the perfect excuse to revisit it. If you’re looking for a classic that’s as accessible as it is delightful, I highly recommend putting this Dodie Smith gem on your own summer TBR! #ICaptureTheCastle #DodieSmith #ReadWomen #ReadTheClassics #SummerReading #FictionMatters
