Did you know that glass is 100% recyclable, endlessly? It can be made into new bottles again and again without any loss in quality. When you shop - whether its for that drink at the servo, jar of mayo or pasta sauce at the supermarket, if you have the option available to you, choose the product in glass over plastic. Your small action will make a difference.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Let’s make earth day every day so our beautiful planet doesn’t become only a memory from the past. “79% of the #plastic produced over the last 70 years has been thrown away, either into #landfill sites or into the general #environment. Just 9% is recycled with the rest incinerated. With more than eight million tonnes going into the oceans every year, it is estimated there will be #moreplasticthanfish by 2050 and 99% of all the seabirds on the planet will have consumed plastic. It is thought the sea now contains around 51 trillion #microplastic particles; 500 times more than stars in our galaxy. Marine #litter is found in every part of the planet. With 300 billion pieces in the Arctic, and a remote island in the Pacific, the uninhabited Henderson Island, one of the Pitcairns, believed to have the highest concentration of plastic pollution in the world. Plastic acts like a magnet for a range of other poisons and #pollutants we have spilled into the natural world. So far, it is known that marine litter harms more than 600 species amid what some regard as the beginning of the sixth mass extinction of life on Earth. Given plastic degrades to pieces small enough to pass through the stomach into the flesh of #fish and other #animals, we are already eating some of the plastic we have thrown into the #sea.” Cartoon: Osvaldo Gomez Source: independent.co.uk -

About 8 million metric tons of plastic are thrown into the ocean annually. Of those, 236.000 tons are microplastics, tiny pieces of broken down plastic smaller than your little fingernail.
Many fish humans consume, including brown trout, cisco, and perch, have at one time or another, ingested plastic microfibers.
By 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than there are fish by weight. @surfrider
