“We ❤️ the ”
This is what our door has looked like for the past few weeks!
We painted our kiddos hands in different shades of green and then had them write a word associated with saving our earth inside of their handprint.
I love this piece we made! We made it using branches found outside and twine from the dollar store. You could make this at any point during the year, really.
We’re going to keep ours up in the classroom until the last day of school!
Happy Earth Day, friends. Be kind to it.

This is my new favorite play hack! I got the idea from @prettyplaypoppy who did an Easter egg version (who got the idea from @playtime.messy.madness!) and it couldn’t be easier- just hot glue designs on a toilet paper roll to make a patterned rolling pin for playdough!
I made a mermaid scale pattern for this one, but I’m also thinking we can get some dragon play out of it too. To go with the imprint roll, I gave her three marbled playdough colors (i.e. I didn’t mix the color all the way ), some sea shells, evergreen twigs that I thought could pass as seaweed, and some metallic golden painted curly pasta from an old sensory bin that we used as magical undersea space worms. I was thinking about giving her sand to mix in, but decided my coffee was not strong enough for that impending mess.
And serendipitously, it’s cardboard roll week on #manywaystoplay with the wonderful host @jc.n.co!

Experiential learning We've had lots of fun exploring ball runs made from drainpipes this week (see my earlier post). Mr 13 months loves posting the balls down the tube, watching and waiting for them to pop out at the bottom. I challenged his thinking by offering a second, smaller drainpipe that many of the balls wouldn't fit into
I recorded Mr 13 months on many occasions, calmly trying to fit the balls into the smaller tube. He would really persist with the challenge, pushing them and pushing them and trying to figure out why they wouldn't go down!
With experience he began to test the balls in the first tube and if they didn't fit he would put them back in the muffin tin or send them down the larger tube. It was amazing to see him try the green spicky ball in the small tube and then pull it out, as if he remembered it got stuck earlier in the day. He then sent it down the larger tube instead!
I wanted to share this experience as I feel it highlights the power of documenting experiential learning. I can see my son's thinking develop through the recordings and it's amazing to observe and reflect on such a rich learning experience!

Who else enjoys science experiments? I remember doing this as a child and my girls love it too, this one from @thisfrenchmom looks so great using Tulips and the results seem lovely and vibrant. We have used Daisies before and works fine

The Flower Shop and Garden Center is now open for business! This is my first time putting my sensory bin in the dramatic play center. I was inspired by @mme.mariah. • CARDBOARD WASHING MACHINE •
Another one of our cardboard DIY’s which we made amongst the tons of cardboard during our move!
.
This was a really fun one, the girls helped to paint it and had the best time playing with it when it was done! .
We painted one side of the box white and waited for it to dry, then I cut out a big circle for the door using a Stanley knife and made a window in it by cutting another circle and taping some plastic (from a large zip lock bag) onto it
.
I cut out a hole in the top left corner and hot glued a baby wipes lid on top of it so that it created a flap to be opened/closed for the washing powder!
.
I made some dials using kids yoghurt pouch lids - I stabbed a hole in them and put a split pin through them and secured the pin in the box, so that they spin! .
I attached some Velcro to the door so that it shuts properly, and I added some rainbow buttons and numbers for a bit of extra colour and number recognition
.
A great one for provoking some extended pretend play and the girls were really proud of having helped make it as well ☺️

This week’s prompt for @manywaystoplay is cardboard rolls! We made these buildings a few months ago and the kids love playing with them!

PAPER ROLL BUILDINGS
Instead of throwing away your paper rolls, collect them to make a little city with these cool and colourful buildings!
It’s building week @get.creative.with! We can’t wait to see what everyone else has come up with.
MATERIALS:
* Paper rolls
* Tempera paint
* Paintbrush
* Coloured construction paper
* Black marker
* Tape
* Scissors
* Glue
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Paint your paper rolls different colours. Let them dry before proceeding to the next step.
2. To form a cone for the roof:
✂️Cut a construction paper into a circle. ✂️Cut a triangle wedge out of the circle. Bring the cut sides together and tape.
TIP: To make sure your circle is perfectly round, trace an object such as a lid or container.
3. Add designs to your cone roofs using your marker and stick them to the top of the paper rolls using tape.
4. Draw windows and doors on the coloured construction paper with your marker and cut them out.
5. Glue windows and doors onto the paper rolls.
