| RING MU-Progresssions & Volume | . Not only are these great progressions but it can be a great way to train more volume? . In weightlifting, we train volume at about 60-70% of 1RM. In gymnastics we can do the same. Scale to take off some “weight” & then build on volume by adding more sets/reps. . Each position gets increasingly harder as we increase our “lever” which increases our “load.” Start with tuck & don’t move on until you can do multiple sets/reps with ease. . KEY POINTS: •Begin with false grip & “turn-out” so you can get elbows straight. •Hip should stay low! The pull initiates the skill not the hip drive. •Keep chest tall & eyes forward during entire skill. •Continue tension entire skill. | RING MU KIP DRILL | . •Pulling to the hip in hollow will make the turnover much easier in a kipping #ringmuscleup . This drill helps the athlete feel tension they need to create by pressing down on rings with lats. . I was going through my Instagram and came across this great post where a girl was demonstrating her amazing bar routine. The main thing that stood out to me was her glide kip and how beautifully she did it, and how it helps her move from one movement to the next. Not that we are about beauty in Crossfit but the first thing that came to mind was that a gymnast you need to use your whole body and have a great sense of space to perform a good routine or movement. In Crossfit we can easily get hung up on the fact that we want to get that bar muscle up and forget about everything that it takes to get there. I am running a 6 week Bar Muscle up program at @crossfitburleigh and one of the first things that I teach is body shape and awareness. Creating tension and power through a tight body and how to glide kip to create better understanding for the kipping movement which translates back to a #muscleup Don't sacrifice! Train hard and train your whole body. Listen to your body and understand it because that is what can help you achieve that movement you are after.
