Asus V8200 Deluxe, nVidia GeForce 3, (Codename: NV20), AGP, 64 MB DDR SDRAM, released in end of February 2001! 200 MHz Core and 230 MHz (460 MHz effective) Memory frequencys!
150 nm process with 57 million transistors!
The GeForce 3 was the first Direct3D 8.0 compliant GPU. Better efficiency than a GeForce 2 GTS/Pro/Ultra, because of improvements in memory bandwidth utilization (Lightspeed Memory Architecture=LMAA) and the hidden surface removal (HSR) functions, that also used the ATI Radeon generation.
EMBM=Environment Mapped Bump Mapping, the Matrox G400 from 1999 was the first chip with this feature, now the NV20 was the first nVidia GPU that can also use this feature. Also Multi-Sample Anti-Aliasing (MSAA) and complete Anisotropic Filtering support with up to 8x. So many new features that are coming with the NV20!
The performance was impressive. Up to 50% (depending on the MSAA, AF settings, HSR has helped a lot) faster than a GeForce 2 GTS! The competitor, the ATI Radeon 8500, sometimes slower, sometimes faster, in special the OpenGL performance was better for nVidia.

AMD Athlon 750 MHz with Thunderbird (T-Bird) core for Slot A mainboards with AMD 751 or some VIA KX133 based mainboards! FSB 100 (200 effective), 256 KB On-Die L2 cache.
Releaed in June 2000!
180 nm process with 37 million transistors!
The Slot A Thunderbird was special build for the OEM market and was never designed for the normal market. Therefore, various board and system manufacturers urged AMD, to produce Thunderbird CPUs for the Slot A, because they did not want to declare the alleged hundred-thousand already made boards as junk.
You need a Goldfinger device, if you want to overclock the CPU (changing the VCore and multiplier) and have to open the case cartridge. You can see the connector on Picture Nr. 4, on the top right.
Also interesting is, that AMD has used a 900 MHz T-Bird core (last picture, see lettering on the Die). Maybe because of the stability, and the core always should run stable with 750 MHz with specified 1,75V VCore, even at very high ambient temperatures.

AMD Am5x86-P75, X5-133ADW (internal codename Am486Plus), 33 MHz FSB, 16 kb L1 Cache with write-back, Socket 1-3, released in November 1995!
350 nm process with 1,6 million transistors!
This was one of the fastest CPUs for 486 based mainboards! Performing similary and sometimes better than a Pentium 75 MHz in integer performance, but FPU sensitive applications ran better on the slowest Socket 5-7 Pentium 75.
This Am5x86 are very good for overclocking. 160 MHz (40 MHz FSB x4 multiplier) should run fine with all this chips and now give a Pentium 90 MHz integer performance.

Hercules 3D Prophet 4000XT AGP, ST Kyro I STG4000, 32 MB SDRAM 128 Bit Bus, released in early 2001!
115 MHz synchronous Core and Memory Clock frequencys!
250 nm process with 12 million transistors! More seen on Picture Nr. 5.
The Kyro 1 (based on the first PowerVR series 3 with STMicroelectronics as the licensee) was a brandnew architecture! Redesigned for better game compability and expanded to a dual-pipeline design for more performance. There was also a 64 MB version for AGP/PCI available!
The Kyro I was sometimes faster than a much higher clocked GeForce 2 MX, in thanks to the tile-based-rendering architecture. This architecture only renders, what is visible in a 3D scene. Objects behind the scene are not rendered, this saves a lot of memory bandwidth!
You really got a lot features for your money back in 2001, because the Kyro was a budget-oriented chip. Environmental Bump Mapping (EMBM), Full Scene Antialiasing (FSAA), Trilinear+Anisotropic filtering abn some Direct3D 8.1 features like 8-layer multitexturing, but no DirectX 7.0 Hardware T&L support like the GeForce series.

Inno3D nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra 256MB AGP - Based on the nv40 Ultra GPU, this was the GPU that brought nVidia to the spotlight again. Very strong performer in pixel shading capabilities, it supported shader model 3.0 through DirectX 9.0c, unlike its comptetitor from ATI. Built on 130nm by TSMC, and packing 222 million transistors, the GPU has 16 pixel shader units and 6 vertex shader units, making it a mamoth GPU for the time with its 287mm². This particular card runs at 425Mhz on the GPU and 1100Mhz on the GDDR3 modules. Release date: April 2004

3dfx Voodoo 5 5500 AGP tuned by Oscar, 2x VSA-100 Rev. 320 cores (Codename: Napalm), 64 MB SDRAM 128 Bit (32 MB for every VSA-100 chip), released in June 2000!
200 MHz synchronous Core and Memory frequencys! Normal was 166 MHz for the V5 5500 cards.
250 nm process with 14 million transistors!
This is a tuned version from one of my Voodoo 5 cards with faster 3.5 ns memory chips from EtronTech with same memory sizes and two newer Rev. 320 VSA-100 chips that also be able to run with higher clock frequencys. The older Rev. 220 was normally used for the V5 5500 cards. A 3dfx pioneer has done this mod. About 20% faster than with 166 MHz. I have made a older comparison video for my youtube channel, where you can see the differences between 166 and 200 MHz on a fast Athlon XP 2 GHz machine.
Features of the VSA-100: First 3dfx chip with 32 Bit color support in 3D, now max. 2048x2048 texture sizes (Voodoo3 had 256x256), Texture Compression S3TC, FXT1, Full Scene Antialiasing FSAA, 2x for every chip, so have 4x on a 5500 card and T-Buffer support. There are only 2 games on the market, that take advantage of the T-Buffer technology: a custom made Quake 3 demo for promoting and Serious Sam First/Second Encounter.
The performance is near a GeForce 2 GTS card, if the CPU is fast enough. Pentium III-S Tualatin with 1400 MHz and faster.

Asus 3DexPlorer-V3000, nVidia RIVA 128, Codename: NV3, 4 MB SGRAM 128 Bit, AGP, released in April 1997!
100 MHz Core and Memory Clock frequencys.
350 nm process with 3,5 million transistors!
The RIVA 128 was the first Direct3D compatible GPU from nVidia.
RIVA stands for Real-time Interactive Video and Animation, 128 for the memory interface and a 128 bit pipeline.
The chip has all hardware features, that are required for Direct3D 5.0 and also a good OpenGL compability. 16 bit colour rendering support in 3D, no 32 Bit.
The bilinear filtering is a little bit sharper than that of the 3dfx Voodoo Graphics, but it add some light noise to textures, because of a lower-fidelity filter algorithm. The RIVA 128 also had problems with noticable seams between polygons.
The 3D performance is competitive with the Voodoo Graphics (Voodoo 1), but with lower quality rendering and rendering errors, compared to a 3dfx Voodoo.
