I started playing the saxophone in 8th grade and built an almost cosmic connection to the instrument instantly. The saxophone was one of the biggest parts of my identity throughout high school. Since I’ve graduated and now devote a majority of my time to school and work, playing the saxophone has become more of a hidden talent rather than a defining characteristic. But occasionally, I get to seize an opportunity to play and fills me with such great joy. I’ve been playing for nearly 9 years now, and the magic of this instrument is still there.

I remember when I first changed my hair color to blue - it was TERRIFYING. The next day, as I stood in front of the mirror I had never felt more...me. You know sometimes when you change your hair, whether it be style or color and you'll walk by a mirror and do a double take? That never happened with the blue, it always felt natural. I could never quite figure out why it felt so right. Several days after I got it done my MIL asked, "WHY blue?". I couldn't tell her...I didn't know. That bothered me. • As time went on I really started to think about it and it finally dawned on me, it was a physical representation of my uniqueness. Blue hair is not a very common thing, especially not in the community in which I've lived my whole life. I've never felt "normal" and this blue hair is a physical way to see that. Sure, it may seem superficial to some but ultimately its all part of becoming, me. I've had several people tell me they wish I would go back to my "natural hair color" because it's "gorgeous", and I understand where they are coming from. I also feel like my "natural hair color" is tied to the person I used to be, and to be honest the blue genuinely feels natural to me even more so than my root color.
