Each of these tiny little elderflowers, when pollinated, will become a sweet elderberry. • Elderberries get most of the attention but the flowers are also valuable. They have a pleasant, sweet flavor and are a useful diaphoretic (help you sweat to lower a fever). • It's been interesting to see how these plants have been progressing in my garden. The blue elderberry and cultivars grow much faster than the taller black species and the plants in full sun are currently ripening clusters of berries while the plants that get a bit of partial shade from a larger tree's shadow flower just as profusely but are about a month behind the others. An easy way to stagger the harvest if you need to!
