Anne Morrs Olyphant created the notebook diary on the right to commemorate a vacation in 1897. It’s full of photos and rhyming captions. The first page reads, “To you who happens to open this book, “The Clan” gives permission to read and to look.” Then the page is signed by everyone on the trip. The address in the front reads: 64 Riverside Drive, New York.
Carol. Spring on Pennsylvania Avenue.1971. S. Renovo, PA. archival pigment print
15 × 15 in. Edition of 3. “As much as ‘Carol’ is about the relationship between subject and photographer, it is about photography itself: the act of looking and the accumulation of moments frozen in time, past and future selves gazing out alongside one another, unaware of each other’s existence. “ Words by @shutupdanielle for @dallasnews .

17-year-old Aurie kept this little diary in 1902, in North Western, NY. I couldn’t quite decipher her name, but many people helped out when I posted the question on my current Instagram story. Thank you! I believe she’s listed on Ancestry as Aurie B. Yutzler Babcock born on January 31st, 1885, but ‘Yutzler’ is showing up with multiple spellings. Her middle name is Bell.
My memories of childhood are as beautiful and iconic as this image of my mom and brother, circa 1971.
.
My dad @pauljamesblack captured all the moments of our lives on film. They are filled with light and happiness and discovery.
.
One of his favorite subjects is my mom, Carol. His portraits of Mom are truly a gaze of love. These incredible photographs of her are the focus of a selection of his work at the @BarryWhistlerGallery.
.
Dad's love for art and photography shaped who I am today. His work continues to inspire me, and I hope it sparks a fire inside anyone who experiences it.

There are sooo many things I love about this early 1960’s photo of my mom and dad in our New Jersey backyard.
.
My dad always tried to be comical, so I'm sure he staged this shot, and my mom was always fine with such antics. My dad's magazine!?!? And they're squeezed into our "family pool,” as my mom has a beer sitting there...the toy boat in the pool...a pair of shorts on the clothesline. ☀️

Meet my Aunt “Wesla” — Norwegian nickname for "little one,” who died five years ago at the age of 90. She was my mum's younger sister, and the youngest of the four kids in their family. This photo was probably taken around 1948, at the family cottage, when Wesla was 25. She was widowed at a young age and her daughter became like another sibling to us. I admired Wesla; she taught English overseas, something I eventually did, to my mother's dismay. The two of them were loyal and close, and died six weeks apart.
