Got to spend another inspiring two days in Sacramento, at the California State Capitol, and this time with my Mama by my side! Last time I was advocating for SB 320, but this time around we were fighting for SB 24. This senate bill will provide abortion care on all UC and CSU college campuses. I heard a lot of opposing arguments in the Senate Education Committee Hearing today and I want to answer a few here, before you all go crazy in the comments: *The 10 million dollars needed to implement abortion care safely in college health centers is privately funded. So NONE of your tax dollars are going towards funding. *This type of medication is not dangerous for the pregnant individuals. Carrying a pregnancy to term is more dangerous. *This is not a religious issue. There is separation of church and state for a reason. It is very wrong to force your faith upon others. *No student will be forced to have an abortion, it is truly a matter of choice. NO ONE has any right to tell someone else what to do with their body or when it is time to become a parent. I don’t agree with a lot of medical decisions people make, but guess what? I would never dare interfere with their decision. It DOESN’T affect me! I’m so proud of all the work that Just Care and the CA Women’s Foundation are doing. Another HUGE thank you to Senator Connie Leyva for being such an advocate of reproductive rights. Thank you for protecting my choice and the choices of my peers.
