I love the unique pleating on the peplum. Made our of a brocade I scored @fabricmart
It is paired with a BurdaStyle narrow skirt in faux leather.
This top was inspired by @tabithasewer when she made her peplum top out of brocade. .

This is the @burda_style Narrow Skirt 03/2018 103B
Sewn up in faux leather from @teliofashion
It is paired with a BurdaStyle peplum top
The skirt required some alterations/adjustments. Had to take a lot of fullness out of the hips, shortened the skirt and removed the vent and just did a back slit. I’m overall happy with how it came out .

Sewing stretchy #fabrics.

Today I sent an email out explaining how to #sew stretchy fabrics without a serger.
A lot of #seamstresses complain about sewing stretchy fabric but the truth is outfits made of stretchy fabric fit so much better and if you want to go into RTW, then you need to love working with stretch and knit fabric.
So here are the tips:
1. Use the right #needle: this is where many create problems for themselves. Use stretch needle or ballpoint needle but never universal needle. Use twin needle for #topstitching.
2. Use a zig zag stitch
3. Reduce the tension of your presser foot
4. Use the hemming tape to stabilise hemlines, neckline and armholes.
5. Use the right thread. There is stretch thread made specifically for sewing stretch fabric. Click link in bio to see a pic of it.
Now the gown I made in the picture above was sewn with (surprise!) stretchy fabric. The design on the shoulder is made of three layers of flounces and about 1 yard of applique. I made sure the applique and flounces were the same colour too.
To make the #flounces stand, I used horsehair (picture2) to hem the flounces and then used white bias to finish the sides of the flounces so it's nice and neat . Then I draped the design I wanted on the finished dress.
