Can you guess where I've been today My favourite Bookshop @jermyandwesterman I'd love to organise a meet up here, they have so many books that I know you'd all love! Who'd be up for a Nottingham meet up? I featured lots of other lovely bookish places a couple of weeks ago that we could visit too. Let me know in the comments and I'll organise a date!

Onto book two of March already, and I’m tackling my fear of non-fiction with one that a lot of people seem to be loving right now! Including my bestie @jobis89 who I trust and knows my taste well ☺️ And indeed, so far I’m enjoying it! I’m just reading it without constantly thinking ‘this is non-fiction’, her writing is smooth, and as it’s a memoir there aren’t a load of facts to put me off - it is a story, just someone’s true story (and I have a feeling it’s going to get brutal!) Have you read this one?
.
I had a lovely spa day yesterday, and then this morning my sister and I had a nice walk along the front while my niece fell asleep in her pram ☺️ I got some strange looks taking lots of outdoor photos, but I’m getting good at not caring
.
Big thanks to Emma @mistyangelofsky for gifting me her copy of Educated as I’d been wanting to try it

I’m sorry, say what?! In the span of two weeks, two people (whom I have never met) have sent me messages to say that I have infiltrated their dream in some form. I cried when I read @kamilakunda’s message. What is this ethereal sorcery?!
“Hi Margaret! I dreamed about thinking of you last night. I was at a bookshop and everywhere they were promoting a new Korean graphic novel, which looked really interesting and had gorgeous illustrations. With every purchase ($15, I remember ) you got a cotton bag with the book’s cover, which showed the girl’s face in glasses on a dark pink background. I don’t remember the title of the book, I only remember it started with “I’ll...”. I decided to buy one copy for myself and one for you. It was promoted as a Korean “Ghostworld” and talked about growing up in Seoul in the 1990s, with the main protagonist also spending summer at her grandparents’ farm in the countryside. It was about looking for your own identity, different from your parents’ ones, and stepping into adulthood of a nerdy, introverted girl. The illustrations had beautiful colours, often warm (as they often showed the girl staying up until the dawn, reading, writing in her journal or thinking, and sunset - when she tried to hang out with others around that time, making friends). They reminded me of the illustrations by Jiwoon Pak and Taiyo Matsumoto.”
Although, this is not a bookstore that sells new titles, I immediately thought of this place located in Seoul while reading the message.
In the last few weeks I have been thinking about connections and how I communicate with people.
Writing has always been the most comfortable way for me to communicate: I have written letters to friends and lovers; in a journal to an ex-boyfriend, scribbled and left notes in books, and most recently in long-form emails to a person I met in Paris through this platform, whom I feel I connected on a deep level. For about a year now we have corresponded with each other via long emails (with intermittent pauses in between that we admonish ourselves for) about our lives (as we have stayed in one spot, typing from the comfort of our homes, or on the move in another country) - the books we are reading, the aches, our fears, our highs, our banalities.
Most most recently, WhatsApp has been the only way to converse with a person who I’ve exchanged so much repartee in the span of one-and-a-half weeks, my brain can’t handle it. And long swathes of wit and wisdom.
Technology as a conduit for communication should never replace face-to-face interaction, but when it is one form of staying in contact with people on the other side of the world, particularly for people who write like their life depends on it, I’m becoming more okay with it.
Thoughts: the WhatsApp ‘typing...’ that appears at the top of the conversation screen is like a modern version of a letter in transit. Anticipatory. Heart palpitations inducing.
And this is me in a most recent exchange: She who wolfs down books and writes like her life depends on it. She who listens to the gaps and silences inbetween cafe din and animated conversations...she who feels feelings deep down in her bones.
Good morning! It’s rather fitting that The Guest Cat is my next read (plucked it off my shelf for my OWL in Care of Magical Creatures ‘land animal on the cover’ for the #magicalreadathon2019 ✨) and the person who sent it to me Liz @wildbonbons is one of the people who have inspired me to open up a bit about life in general (the other being Madalina @thereaderswardrobe ) because I sometimes feel that I just keep it strictly bookish on here and give off the impression my life is all fine and dandy when I’m actually just fumbling along best I can

I’ve been dreading this Monday as work has been very very full on recently. I cried three times last week, because of a myriad of reasons including the pressure of my workload for a big edition we were working on (I write for a magazine) and two people (no one I work with in the office) shouting at me on the phone for no good reason BUT, finally, the third time I ended up in tears, I had chats with my editors and it turns out that talking about your problems can actually them better Who knew ♀️ And I suggest that you ask for help preferably BEFORE you end up ugly crying at work, or at least after the first time.
.
So if you’re having struggles at work, just know that you’re not alone and admitting you need help is okay
.
I hope everyone’s Monday is bearable - and no tears!

Good morning! Perfect Sunday morning reading material, no? And if you’re all sick and tired of me posting action pouring shots just say the word and I will ignore it and continue to post them! ☕️
.
Do you review every book you read on your feed? I definitely try to! But I won’t be posting a review for this one because I never have much to say about crime/thrillers, and as this one is the seventh book in a series it would be pretty hard to discuss character development without giving away major spoilers I’ll just save this one for a mini Goodreads review I think! That might also save me some catching up - currently I have 6 reviews written and ready to go but I just can’t post quick enough to get rid of the backlog
.
Hope everyone has a lovely Sunday!

Happy Sunday! Did you know that, according to LitHub, you only a finite amount of time — and books — left in your life to read? If you read 12 books a year (like the average American) and over the age of 25, you only have approximately 700 books in your future. A scary thought, right?⠀
.⠀
If you're suddenly rushing to get started, we've rounded up the 100 top books you have to read in your lifetime on the blog. Link in bio!⠀
.⠀
How many books do you read per year?⠀
