⏩Swipe for more⏩ Update on Myu Super Sailor Moon. Most of you may know, that I wasn’t able to debut this costume at Fanime like I had planned. Both @lunar.lyn and I worked ourselves into the ground trying to finish our Myu Moons up until hours before we were suppose to wear them. It was a very hard pill to swallow for many reasons, but in the end we made the right decision to put our health before a costume. - Now that it has been a few weeks I feel both mentally and physical ready to finish this beast. I still need to permanently attach the hip roll and wings, sew on a bunch of snaps, adjust the petticoat, finish the wig and various other small tasks. At this point I’m not sure when I’ll be wearing her, as I only have one more con this year, but I do plan to finish it in the next month or so. - Myu costumes are not for faint of heart. And this whole costume has been a bit humbling and made me aware of my physical limitations now that I’m older. My favorite part of the Sera Myu Moon costume is definitely the belt/hip fins! It was the single component that took the longest to create. The hip fins are 3mm EVA foam wrapped in white iridescent glitter canvas, and the trim was beaded on entirely by hand with transparent thread. The gold part is more foam wrapped with glitter canvas, then the rhinestone trim was couched down and the hip fins were sewn on by hand. Before a Moonie Monday passes by I want to share another detail collage of my Sera Myu Le Mouvement Final Super Sailor Venus! Still one of my favorite costumes to date. She’s already seen a lot of action with 4 conventions and a @wondercon Best in Show win. This group project was the opportunity of a lifetime and the girls and I worked so hard for it to happen. I’ve seen the musicals gain so much popularity here in the States and it’s so exciting to share all the love I have for them. I’m also still working on my two Moons, Super and Eternal, that I’ll be debuting between the fall and spring coming up! What can I say? Since it’s #MoonieMonday I thought I’d post an update on my Sera Myu Super Moon. Here is where she was left after not being able to finish for @fanimecon. It was such a bummer. I’m honestly not sure what I came away with on that experience. The two weeks of late nights and stress leading up to Fanime triggered a week long fibromyalgia flare up for me, which I just got over. It was frustrating and @windofthestars and I definitely had the wind taken out of our sails to work on these since. Now that life has calmed for me, I’m making a list of what needs to be done. There’s lots of snaps and small tacking on the collar and butt bow but also the wig needs lots of work. We stubbed them, added the ponytails over the stubs (accurate to the stage versions) and made separate odango buns that will be covered in wig fibers horizontally with a swirl of fibers on the back side (weird, I know). Those are actually attached with neodymium magnets for easy removal for travel and storage. I also plan to fill in the bangs more to hide the wefting better and ventilate a lacefront at the bang center. The ponytails will be encased in a nude-yellow net casing like the stage wig. The ends will be curled. I need the moons for my boot tops made and attached and the bodice will be completed with the last stage accurate trim from Japan! (Check my story highlights for more details)✨ I’ve learned a lot of new things having done this project, it’s NOT perfect and there’s things that bug me, but overall I’m happy with it. It’s like a warmup to when I make Eternal Moon this fall! Sera Myu costuming is a disease, y’all. Don’t do it ✨ • Gentle reminder that I’m not planning to put out my Myu patterns right now but if I do I will sell them through my site I’m working on and I would definitely announce it. Things like this are a TON of work (over 2 years) and it’s just a hobby for me. It would take many more hours to digitize and I can’t devote that kind of time for a while. Sewing a perfectly centered zipper into this suit was quite the task, but I did it lol! Suit is made of pearly mystique spandex, flatlined with a layer of spacer padding to provide extra structure and opacity.
