Lakeside Garden at Jurong Lake Gardens is open! You can now enjoy the western portion of Singapore’s third national gardens, and the first national gardens in the heartlands. Located along Yuan Ching Road and next to Lakeside MRT, there are exciting features such as Forest Ramble – the largest nature playgarden in the heartlands, the picturesque Grasslands where you can pose for the ‘gram, and Rasau Walk where you can take a stroll by Jurong Lake and enjoy the sights and sounds of a restored freshwater swamp. There is something for everyone at Jurong Lake Gardens! Also, be sure to check out the inaugural SGF Hort Show at Lakeside Garden from 27 April to 5 May! After an entire week of colour and galaxies, I'm cleansing my palette and doing a retrospective piece. . In 2016, my old friend @carpentersbug Robert Carpenter asked me to meet him at the @sggardenfest Singapore Garden Festival held at the Gardens by the Bay. The event wasn't officially open yet but Robert was excited that I meet his friend, James Basson and see his amazing exhibit. To cut a very long story short, I'd known Robert since his wild days, was prejudiced and expected his friend to be similar. James in fact turned out to be very gentlemanly and refined. (He's met the Queen!) It was his garden that was wild, deep and abstract. . Much later, I would find out that James was very famous in his field, and that amongst other awards, he most recently clinched Best in show at the (emphasis 'the') Chelsea Flower Show in 2017. . And today, I realize that visiting that show, especially the landscape and fantasy section, changed the way I see gardens and in turn, how I sometimes paint my flowers and abstracts.
