The Imperial War Museum is home to the most complete and accurate Holocaust exhibition I’ve ever seen in a non-exclusive Holocaust Museum/Memorial. From the roots of anti-Semitism in Europe, to the liberation of the concentration camps, not hiding names, facts and faces. Well done Britain! #shoah #neveragain #neverforget #amisraelchai #london #uk
Auschwitz did not start with the gas chambers. During the sporadic wave of attacks on the Jewish-owned shops in Germany during 1938-1939, many Jews were accosted in the streets and subjected to public humiliation through forced labor. One of the Nazi's favorite acts of forced labor was to compel Jews and other dissidents to sweep city streets and clean walls. In the picture, a Nazi forces a German Jew to take a broom and sweep the pavement. #NotlongagoNotfaraway

“I’ve asked myself again and again whether it wouldn’t hav been better if we hadn’t gone into hiding, if we were dead now and didn’t have to go through this misery, especially so that the others could be spared the burden. But we all shrink from this thought. We still love life, we haven’t yet forgotten the voice of nature, and we keep hoping, hoping for... everything. Let something happen soon, even an air raid. Nothing can be more crushing than this anxiety. Let the end come, however cruel; at least then we’ll know whether we are to be the victors or the vanquished.”

This week, seven Boston-area college students, including #Brandeis students Elan Kawesch '20 (who is also the program director), Maddie Herrup '22 & Cheyenne Paris, MA'21, are conducting a Holocaust memory service-learning mission at the former Nazi death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. The trip is part of "Together, Restoring Their Names," a fellowship conducted by @CJPBoston's IACT Campus Initiative.
The fellows toured the concentration camp Auschwitz I, which was initially set up by the Nazis to imprison Polish intellectuals and resisters. There, students conducted independent research on topics ranging from on-site accessibility challenges to "multiple narratives" presented by the museum. The students have also written poetry about their impressions. See our IG Story for some excerpts.
Since 2015, "Together, Restoring Their Names" has recruited dozens of fellows to volunteer with Boston-area Holocaust survivors and participate in service-learning missions. Thousands of college students have attended events and programs organized by the fellows, including encounters with survivors, film programs, and academic panels based on our missions.
What are you doing this summer? We will be featuring #BrandeisSummer on and off campus all summer!

Memorial above memorial: Below the Holocaust memorial is the "Place of Information". This exhibition expands the monument with personal stories and information about the victims.
Men, women and children from Carpatho-Ruthenia- Jews from Berehovo, Bilke, and the region- step out of the overcrowded train, traumatized and fearful after their horrendous journey.
They have no clue that they have just been delivered to a death factory and that few of them will survive.
Since the railroad car has no convenient steps, the old Jews have to be assisted in disembarking from the train in the Birkenau arrival platform known as the "ramp". The words written on the side of the train are "Deutsche Reichsbahn" ("German State Railway"). © @yadvhasem

#Reposting these feels from @Jewish_Chick on the somber occasion of #YomHaShoah... "For the 6 million who were slaughtered before me, for just being a Jew.
I refuse to be silent.
I refuse to be timid.
I refuse to be blind.
For the 6 million who were slaughtered before me, for just being a Jew." #DoubleTap to honor the memory of those who were slaughtered, and the struggles of those who survived.
