Meet Mila! ❤️ "Mila, approximately 7 months when I got her, was one of the lucky survivors that got pulled off the streets by the shelter, Sochi Dogs, from the Sochi Olympics in Sochi, Russia, and she flew all the way to Canada to be in her furever home. We waited hours and hours and drove back and forth at the airport to fill out the paper work and paid off the fees to get her.
After all that was done, we were finally able to bring out Mila. She was scared and hid in the corner of her crate. I had to go in and scoop her in my arms to get her out. When we were home, she acted as if she knew me this whole time! I was astounded as to how quickly she bonded with me in just a few hours. The next day when I took her out for a walk, she displayed signs of extreme fearfulness. She was terrified of strangers, loud noises, other dogs, and people wearing large winter coats. She'd bark, growl, and will try to hide under anything she could find. Walking her was nearly impossible because she would always look back every few seconds as if someone was about to come out and attack her. Luckily, I took a week off from work to be with her.
Flying to Canada was a whole new experience for her and it made her nervous. I saw the scars in her and how much living on the streets had affected her as I put myself in her paws and I started to understand where she was coming from. Neither the shelter and I know exactly what happened to her in the past. For all we know, her and her two sisters were found under a car at a parking lot and a volunteer brought them in to the shelter. It's likely Mila and her sisters may have been abused when they were younger as Mila was very fearful of everything. (....continued below in the comments section...)
We ran into Sochi Dog Henry at the @jeffkoons Flower Fountain in Lower Manhattan! Since he was adopted last year Henry has become a real city slicker: he loves people watching, shopping at @bedbathandbeyond (hold the vaccumes), eating all the snackies, and hanging with his awesome new humans!
