Bioluminescence in New South Wales, Australia. Photos by @davey_rogers #universe_dope
From @davey_rogers — “Sometimes nature just blows my mind. A mesmerising display of bioluminescence or ‘Sea Sparkle’ along @sapphirecoastnsw last night. Here we have a buildup of the algae in a back lagoon which was illuminating as raindrops hit it. I watched it for hours.”
What would you name this galaxy? It’s just called NGC 2841 ✨ a giant spiral galaxy similar to the andromeda galaxy. It has a really big ring structure within the constellation Ursa Major. It’s about 46 million light years away and it’s home to a large population of young blue stars. The galaxy itself is around 100,000 light years wide.

Zeta Oph: Runaway Star

Like a ship plowing through cosmic seas, runaway star Zeta Ophiuchi produces the arcing interstellar bow wave or bow shock seen in this stunning infrared portrait. In the false-color view, bluish Zeta Oph, a star about 20 times more massive than the Sun, lies near the center of the frame, moving toward the left at 24 kilometers per second. Its strong stellar wind precedes it, compressing and heating the dusty interstellar material and shaping the curved shock front. Around it are clouds of relatively undisturbed material. What set this star in motion? Zeta Oph was likely once a member of a binary star system, its companion star was more massive and hence shorter lived. When the companion exploded as a supernova catastrophically losing mass, Zeta Oph was flung out of the system. About 460 light-years away, Zeta Oph is 65,000 times more luminous than the Sun and would be one of the brighter stars in the sky if it weren't surrounded by obscuring dust. The image spans about 1.5 degrees or 12 light-years at the estimated distance of Zeta Ophiuchi.

"Clouds of Andromeda II"
The Andromeda Galaxy is one of the most photographed and studied celestial objects so, when I released an image early last year, showing a number of hydrogen clouds roaming right in the field of view of Andromeda never seen like this before, it was quite a sight. Since then, these clouds have been photographed just a few more times so far.
Here's a new image where the clouds are a bit more visible and the galaxy itself glows brighter in blue hues from millions of young stars, while blending with the much fainter clouds, creating a dynamic image with a gorgeous display of colors.
