#repost @lionwhisperersa "It's been a busy time at the sanctuary, and thanks to a grant from the @kevinrichardsonfoundation , we were able to complete a series of laparoscopic spays for our residents. I hope you enjoy part one of the sanctuary spay videos. And for those asking, while it would be easier to vasectomize the males, the females would then still go through heat cycles repeatedly, causing the males to mate with no conception. This results in increased levels of aggression of males, between males and females who are essentially always being mounted by the males with little or no reprieve. On that note, this seems like a good time to wish you all a wonderful weekend and a Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there celebrating. It’s my spay day!! Mommy is freaking but I told her not to worry.
Mom here:
So growing up I had pets. They were usually dogs tied outside or outside cats. My Dad loved animals but I think tying dogs outside is how they grew up too. Just like people with human kids we try to make changes for our fur kids to better their lives. Growing up our dogs were male and never neutered. I never spayed or neutered any of my dogs since I’ve had my own dogs. I didn’t think it was important. When I got on IG my views changed on a few things and this is one of them. I realized that even though we didn’t plan to breed them there were many reasons why they needed spayed. One reason is health. Another reason is I thought what if something happens to my husband and I. Then we leave behind four dogs that aren’t spayed and would likely sit in a shelter. I try to make the best decisions I can. I try to do research and learn all I can to be a better dog mom. I think by being honest about our experiences with our fur kids it helps us grow into better dog pawrents. So that’s why all my girls are getting spayed. Piper is done. Ginger’s spay is today. Then Jazz is next and Miley last. I hope this gives my girls a healthier happier life.
We all have different ways of raising our pups. We feed them different, we exercise them different and dress them different. I have many friends that have always felt spaying and neutering is important before I realized it but I never felt judged by them. We all do things hoping we are bettering their lives. That’s what changed my mind. I want my girls around as long as possible and this is one step to promote a happy and healthy future. I love my four girls and I would do anything for them. They have put their trust in me and I don’t ever want to fail them.
Now I’ll go throw up as I leave Ginger for the first time since I got her.

Little Rosie has gone in for her spay today. Second time lucky we took her at 6 months but they wanted to see if she'd grow a bit more and asked us to wait another month. She was the same weight today so they are happy she's just a small girl and will go ahead today Hoping it goes well and she loses her sass as I think Teddy is getting fed up of being humped all the time
