Meet our new member, Sara Leacy⁣ ⁣.⁣ ⁣Sara recently graduated from University College Cork(Ireland) with a BSc(Hons) in Zoology. She decided to take a year out and moved to New Zealand after graduating to explore another country. She then realised she wanted to continue her studies and she returned to Ireland to study an MRes in Environmental Science, which she is currently halfway through⁣ ⁣.⁣ ⁣Her research looks at the impact of farmyards on the water chemistry of small drains which run into streams and rivers. It has been exciting and challenging for her to learn an entire new aspect of science, and move from a biological background to a chemistry focus in this research!⁣ ⁣.⁣ ⁣She co-hosts a weekly radio show at her university, the show is called The Green Step and is linked on her Instagram account. She has recently become interested in science communication and this is the reason she set up her page @thepinkscientist. When she’s not out sampling or in the lab, she enjoys hiking and watching rugby. She LOVES food and is known for her never-ending snack supply she carries with her! She always loved being outdoors and everything to do with nature. Her favourite animals are giraffes, which is ironic since she is a mere 5’3!⁣ ⁣.⁣ ⁣Spectrophotometry: The photo shows some cute little cuvettes containing some not-so-cute farmyard drain water, the blue colour is the resulting colour change after testing orthophosphate levels⁣ ⁣.⁣ ⁣My research uses spectrophotometry to analyse water samples for a number of different parameters.
