It’s took us a little while to find out where the cool kids hung out on St. Barths, but eventually we found them at the Reefer Surf Club on Lorient Beach. One of the unique things about the island of St. Barths is the airport runway that starts (or ends) right at the beach. A favourite family activity of ours is to spend an hour or two on St. Jean Beach in the late afternoons, watching the planes takeoff and land. It’s a pretty incredible experience. Where do you dream about when you long to get away? St. Jean Beach in St. Barths is where my mind drifts off to. Although rather busy in this photo (Spring Break), on other trips, we have had this stretch of sand almost to ourselves. The waves are so gentle, that it was once the perfect place for my son to learn to swim (when we were lucky enough to rent a little cottage along its shores). These days, he just grabs a snorkel and mask and heads out to see if he can find a turtle or two to swim with in the bay. Hello from St. Barts! I gathered the local flowers, made a bouquet and Voila! Well not quite that simple or quick, but I had to use some French. I’ve named it “Flamands” after the region we are staying in. It’s gouache and watercolor. Hopefully I can get it home safely. We’ve had a great trip even with coughs and colds because who cares here?
