Ooooh... ahhhh....pencils through a plastic bag filled with water and no leaks? The kids were pretty impressed. Steve Mould’s new book, Science is Magic is filled with gems like these - simple science tricks that will amaze your kids. My favourite part is that every experiment paired with a brief explanation of the science behind the trick, so you can actually talk to your kids about what’s going on. My kids also had fun pulling the pencils out and spraying water everywhere! Check out our hosts for this week’s #makeamesswithwater challenge:

CLOUD SCIENCE I used some water, shaving cream and blue food colouring to show how rain falls from clouds. I wasn’t expecting a shaving cream fun fest, but sometimes you have to roll with it My kids are now in the bath looking like smurfs but it was a day full of science and sensory fun!

Air powered car
What can you make with 1 balloon , 4 wheels a straw and some sticky tape? Probably lots of things ♀️, but also this cool as air powered car. Thanks @deneystore For the Fabo video of your cool STEM creation.
This is the perfect creator challenge and a super fun way to bring up vocabulary like;
• Pressure
• Speed
• Force
• Motion
Plus it could be made a 1000 different ways. Like with lego, cardboard boxes or you could pop a balloon onto the back of a car, that's a toy car, not a real one. You could try it, but I don't think it would work (STEM girl joke)! Benzin zamlarına karşı duruşumuz İlk yerli ve milli otomobilimizin nefesimizin son damlasına kadar yolu var

⛜ Lego Marble Maze. He did great, he was playing with his daddy and baby brother... well me too, but I was mainly taking pictures hehe. He saw a picture on our phone from Pinterest, for like 30 seconds and we took it away. Then he had to figure out how to make the maze so the marble could find an exit... he was so happy and proud. Such a fun and great engineering challenge .

• Lava Lamp • here’s a classic science experiment that never gets old a diy lava lamp - I used water, oil, food colouring, glitter (of course✨) and then had Callum drop in an Alka Seltzer tablet to start the reaction Swipe to see a video of the reaction

• Marbled Prints • Next up in our messy science week: planets made from shaving cream marbled prints This is definitely one of the messiest ways to make prints but shaving cream is so easy to clean up and the activity itself is so much fun that it’s totally worth the craziness This method of using shaving cream and paint/food colouring is an easy way to produce beautiful marbled prints for various crafts- I’ve seen a few gorgeous marbled Valentines on my feed over the last few days .
.
.
All you need to do is spread some shaving foam (we use the cheapest kind we could find) onto a flat surface - I find that baking sheets work best for us. Add some drops of paint (I’ve also seen food colouring used but haven’t tried it myself), and then use a popsicle stick/straw or even your fingers to swirl the colours around to create a marble effect. Next step is to take some cardstock or a paper plate like we did and press it onto the mixture to transfer the prints. Scrape off the excess shaving cream and you’re left with beautiful marbled prints

• Fizzy Snakes • this activity did not start out as planned (which is about 99% of my planned activities ) ...swipe to see my activity prep from last night. I had planned a fizzing snake egg hatch but my “snow” did not freeze well and instead turned into a heaping pile of crumbly lumps Talk about messy! But we love messy and it goes perfectly with our week of #makeamesswithscience We used droppers filled with vinegar to start the reaction and ended up with a fizzing tray of rainbow mush which revealed the hidden snakes
.
.
.
When I prepped the snow last night and packed it into a silicone mould, I hid drops of food colouring before placing a little rubber snake in each hole, then topped with more snow ❄️ Pressed it in as firmly as I could and then popped into the freezer. I used my go-to recipe of 2.5 cups of baking soda to 1/2 cup of white hair conditioner. I think next time I’ll add a bit more conditioner or even a bit of water to the mixture to dampen it a bit more so that it will hold together better when frozen Freezing the mixture did make for a cool sensory experience though! .

• Erupting Lemons • here’s a fun little science experiment that any age can enjoy! Watching how a lemon reacts with baking soda- the results are explosive we added some drops of vinegar to keep the reaction going. Adding a few drops of food colouring before the baking soda was also a pretty good idea just look at all that glorious colour mixing This is how we’re kicking off our messy science week!
