As we mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day, the Allied landings on five Normandy beaches, which began on 6th June 1944, here’s a look back at previous D-Day anniversaries held here. In 2009 we marked the 65th anniversary with a service in Westminster Abbey attended by many veterans. The standard of the Normandy Veterans Association was paraded during the service. In 2014, we marked the 70th anniversary of the landings in St Margaret’s Church. During this service, the Normandy Veterans Association standard was laid up, as the Association disbanded due to declining membership.
